Feeling kinda blah and wanting to rant. What better than in a semi-public forum? I say "semi-public because I doubt anyone will actually read this (honestly, who reads Gaia journals anymore?) but on the off chance that someone does, I hope they read something that they can relate to in someway. Basically, this is going to be a lesson in free-sprawling random musings, so don't expect anything to transition in a coherent way. Anyway, let us begin.
~~~~~~~~~
I never quite got the vampire mythos that pops up from time to time in fanfiction, trashy vampire novels, and RPs in which the vampires have a coagulant in their saliva. Doesn't seem to be an evolutionary trait that would be constructive when said vampire is trying to snack on Mrs. Bella Vampbait. I mean, if the blood stops flowing, you're dinner's going to be cut a little short, yeah? Vampire bats actually have an anti-coagulant in their saliva so they can drink their fill.
This little vampire trait doesn't show up all that often, but that doesn't make it any less ill conceived. Basically, it's a plot device so the sexy vampire dude or dudette can lick what ever little human that they're trying to get with or whatever. I have, however, thought of a way in which this actually works. See, the coagulant in the saliva isn't released until the vampire's body signals that it is full. That way, if there is anything left in their victim, they can naturally seal it for freshness. Of course, I might be the only one that thinks that deep into the biology of vampires...
I dunno, think I should stop there? It would probably be a bit weird to go from vampires to talking about what people do in RPs and/or fanfiction that generally pisses me off. Though, to be honest, I might just have that old college ailment where you take one class in political science or creative writing and all of the sudden you think you're an expert on the subject.
But seriously, how can someone read an 8 paragraph RP post written in 8pt font with NO SPACES. Does no one understand the importance of white space? What, did you think your teacher made you double-space all your essays so you, the student, wouldn't have to write so much? No, it's because large walls of text with no breaks is hard to read, especially if the text is small. Nobody really wants to have to use their finger (or cursor) to follow along each and every line so they can make sure not to miss anything. RPing is supposed to be fun, not a chore for the eyes.
And what's more, where is the point in writing so much content all at once? No one can do anything with it because you've already moved on with whatever your character is doing. The whole point of an RP is to interact with other characters. When I see a lot of text, it makes me feel like you're more interested in showing off how much you can write at once than interacting with my character.
Ok, I'm going to cut this off now before I get too invested. I'm typing this up at 2:30am without glasses in a freakin' towel for Pete sake! (On that note, if some grammar Nazis wanna pick on a half blind person.....[I know I probably have some typos] )
