Sometimes I am so dumb, words don't describe it. As everything fades to bright red and numbness, I wonder if I'm dying and what I could have been thinking getting myself into this mess. I wasn't thinking, that's the problem. "Dewie O'Brian, you are a drunken fool. Quite a piece of work." A voice in my head spoke. I was sure I was dillusional.
Suddenly, I see someone run toward me, it was one of the women wrestlers and though I can't hear anything, I can tell she's concerned.
Before I pass out, I hear the voice in my head say, "Is this really how you want life to be?" It is then I realize it's my own voice I was hearing.
I woke up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. My head was killing me, and I knew it wasn't because of the six pack I had earlier. It was because of my stupidity after the six pack, because of the beating I took on account of my actions.
I could have died back there. I should have died, it would have been one less drunk, and a lot of lives saved.
"It doesn't have to be like that." My inner self said.
"Then give me a reason."
When I opened my eyes, looking right at me was the woman from before, Babygirl.
"Did you just say something?" she asked.
"No." I replied.
The more I thought, the more I realized, she was the reason. I just had to become someone better, someone worth the trouble of saving.
"Thank you." I said, breaking another silence.
"Huh?"
"Thanks for saving my life. You don't know me from Adam, yet you helped me, why?"
"I don't know why, I guess I don't like to see anyone beaten and embarrassed like that."
I didn't know what to make of her, she wasn't like anyone else. For some reason, I liked that, and I liked her. It seemed to fit her.
Babygirl
I didn't know what to think about the Drunken Irishman. He didn't seem as bad as I always heard he was. A shovenist who treats women like slaves, a drunken gutter rat, a man who would jump an enemy from behind, and a straight up thug. He now seemed like an insecure man, worried that he was about to lose his career.
Once we were at the hospital, we found out that he had no serious injuries, and I was given his medication and the directions for each different pill. It was as if they thought we were dating.
"Man, I hate that! Just because I have a head injury, doesn't mean I can't remember things!" he yelled.
"They think I'm you're girlfriend." I said.
"Let them think that, there's no harm in it. Although, I gotta say, I am hoping that we can come to an agreement about that. I owe you for saving me, and I intend to make it up to you."
"Like how?" I asked, starting to think I might be seeing what my friends in the locker room were warning me about."
"First of all, no more drinking. No, I'm serious, I've had enough, the beating I took, woke me up. Second, I can pull a few strings and get you into the group, they'll have to accept you. Third, I know how a couple of the guys will act once they know you'll be in with us, to straighten them out, I will have to tell them you're with me, you don't know the kind of hassle they'll give you if I don't, and not only do I not want that for you, I want to be telling the truth. Fourth, where we go from here, is between you and me."
"Okay, I'm willing to try." I said.
Rehab
After my medication started to work, I made a call to the office. I told the person my situation and asked for some tv time to make a formal announcement. They transferred me over to the boss, I explained everything again to her, this time I got the go ahead to do the spot.
Before then, traveling with the company, Babygirl and I hit the beaches, cafes, and resteraunts. I couldn't believe how much fun I was having without a single drink.
Then the day I waited for came, as the crowd drown everything out with their shouts and boos. Seeing Babygirl with me though, they quieted down waiting to hear what I had to say.
"As I'm sure management has told you, I have an announcement to make. I'd like all of my family, The Rowdy Bunch to come down here to the ring, yes, you too, Excelente." When they were all in the ring, I continued, "As you know, we are the fastest growing, and strongest stable in the FWA. We have the ex-champion, Con Bena, The Syrian Stallion, and Jonny Muscles. Now, let me introduce to you, the newest member, Babygirl." As she walked up and stood by my side, whistles and cat calls rose up from the crowd, "And speaking of that, I do have a bone to pick with each of you. Con, I know you had your title match later in the night, but you must have how things were in the ring, why didn't you come down to help me?"
"To tell the truth, I should have been watching, but I wasn't. I was preparing for the title match." he replied.
