Time is like a bullet from behind
More nonsense from the youth. [Bologna process rant added.]
Last week my friend asked some questions in his computer science lecture - good, interesting and intelligent questions.
Some students approached him and told him to stop asking questions in class, it'd hold everyone back and go on everyone's nerves.

Please? The teacher will say so if his asking questions holds everyone back. And if the questions go on their nerves, why not just not listen?

He was devastated afterwards because he thought uni to be a place where people go deliberately to learn as much as possible, and everyone is in their classes (at least the important classes of their major... like the one I was talking about) because they want to know about the subject.
For most people there, he's certainly right, but nowhere near everyone goes to university out of thirst for knowledge. A lot of people are going there to qualify for their career path, nothing more, and all they want is the little white slip that says they passed the class. They don't want people like him to hold them up when they're force-feeding knowledge to their brains to spit it back out onto the exam sheet.

University as he dreams of it is an ideal, one that we will never reach I fear, even less now after the Bologna process where, in my opinion, our educational system has been butchered to stuff people with standardized knowledge as fast as possible, to spit out heaps of Bachelor graduates, all alike. Things seem to be focusing on "how do we get these people ready for a career" even more, rather than valuing knowledge and education for its own sake.
