[ On a foggy, early sunrise, Vladimir awoke from his cold, dirty bed. A gust of wind blew across his face and sent a long shiver down his spine. His whole body was stiff from last night’s rainfall. He slowly stood up, being careful not to wake his two younger sisters, and quietly headed towards the door.
“Get the hell out there and do your job, Vladimir!”
His father boomed from around the corner. His crushing blue eyes were glaring at him impatiently.
“You should have been out there 20 minutes ago!”
His two younger sisters instantly stirred and fled to the farthest corner of the room, their eyes wide. Vladimir swiftly walked outside. The sun was almost above the dark hills that lay in front of him. His feet were wet with dew and his clothes lightly clung to him. There was a small cold breeze. He ran over to the back of the house and opened the broken shed. He looked through it until he found his fishing rod and a bucket. He carried them to a small pond, which lay a couple yards away from the house. The fog was starting to disperse.
Vladimir still couldn’t see anything except for small water striders and the small ripples of the water. Vladimir sat down by the waters edge and looked down into the water. Memories of his childhood started to flow into his mind.
“You can’t ******** do anything right can you?”
Vladimir’s father roared at his mother. Vladimir peeked around the corner of his room and saw his mother and father in the kitchen facing each other. The sun was down and it was very late at night. His mother, a very patient and kind woman, merely stared at her plate of food quietly. His father threw his plate across the room with a grunt .His mother jumped slightly. The wooden plate cracked in small pieces on the dirt floor. His father looked at her expectantly with a grin on his face, amusement in his eyes. Vladimir’s mother reluctantly stood up and started cleaning the mixture of food and wood. His father laughed loudly and left the kitchen and started walking towards his room. Vladimir quickly turned back into my dark room and quickly ran to his bed, tripping over his baby sisters. He caught his feet before he could hurt them.
When Vladimir saw him pass by, he quietly ran back out to the kitchen, being careful not to trip over his sisters, and ran to his mom .She turned towards him, her frown went to a smile and her eyes brown soft eyes were bright. She picked Vladimir up and hugged him close to her cold skin. Suddenly, he felt her grip clutch him tighter and tighter.
Vladimir twisted around and looked in the direction she was looking. Straight down the small, short, dark hallway was his father with a bottle, a small bit of rope, and a shiny object in his opposite hand. He had a menacing look on his face, and he looked like he was limping slightly. He walked slowly into the kitchen, stumbling over his feet.
“It doesn’t have to end like this, you know.”
He said slurring. He set the bottle on the old wooden table with a big CLANK. The other objects were behind his back. He rested his hand on the table and almost made the tall, fragile candle fall over. Vladimir’s mother quickly put him down and patted him away. Vladimir passed his father cautiously. When Vladimir passed by he glanced behind him and looked at his mother confused. His father gave him a huge kick with his foot that sent Vladimir tripping and landing on his hands.
“Get the hell out of here!” He yelled to Vladimir.
“Don’t hurt him!” His mother cried and begged, “Please!”
“Shut up, Witch!” He spat back
Vladimir took this chance to run back into his room and peek around the corner. His father stepped slowly up to Vladimir’s mother. His mother, still crying, fell to her knees and pulled on his shirt.
“Please, no!” She begged quietly through her sobs, “Please don’t do this!”
He ignored her begging and instead bent down to her level, put the shiny object down and started to put the rope around her mouth. The huge shiny object was then, almost immediately, back in his hand. Vladimir could not understand what his father was doing. He had so many questions, but he knew he must be silent.
He stood up again then, with much force, grabbed Vladimir’s mother by her beautiful long brown hair and dragged her outside into the darkness. Her muffled screams and cries were useless compared to his strength and determination. Vladimir slowly followed them outside. His eyes had to slowly adjust to the darkness. When he could see the two objects he followed quietly.
“I’ll see you in hell, you whore!” He whispered to her. Vladimir saw a shiny object glinting off of the moon and swiftly come down. There was a heart stopping sound of a thud, then an eerie silence. He heard his father snort in disgust and start stumbling towards the house again. Vladimir ran back inside and jumped into his bed. He heard a POP come from his bed. A spring had come loose.
Vladimir heard footsteps coming towards him and the cracking of leaves. He quickly took out his fishing rod and plopped it into the water. His father came up to him quickly. Vladimir tried to look calm; He combed lightly through his short hair and yawned quietly.
“Have you caught anything yet?” He asked impatiently, still standing up, looming over Vladimir.
“No, not yet. The fish just aren’t biting.” Vladimir said quietly looking at the falling, red sun.
“Why you good for nothing-!” He grabbed Vladimir’s shirt and, with one fist, pushed him into the pond. Vladimir quickly grabbed onto his fist and brought him in with him. They made a huge splash in the small freezing pond. The water quickly filled his ears. Vladimir tried swimming back up to the top, but he was being stopped by something. He opened his eyes and tried to look around. The cold water stung his face, and he was slowly losing air. Vladimir only saw dark shapes of fish. Suddenly, he felt a huge tug on his leg. He looked down and saw an arm grabbing onto his leg. He tried to wriggle free, but it was no use. The arm dragged him down and he looked more closely. The object was right in front of him. His mother was staring straight into his eyes. She looked the same as when he was younger. She still had on the same clothes and she had a bloodstain on her clothes by her heart. He understood now. Vladimir understood what she was.
“It is time.” She said calmly. Her voice was clear, other than muffled in the water.
Vladimir closed his eyes and tried to process what was going to happen. Suddenly, he felt a sharp pain on the side of his neck. He cried out, only for it to be muffled. The blood through his veins started to burn slightly and he writhed in the water. Water slowly filled his lungs and he stopped moving for a moment. His heart had stopped beating and the blood had stopped moving. His body turned cold and he could feel his teeth growing quickly. He felt hands holding his tightly; they seemed to be almost pulling on his fingers. All at once, there was a mix between water, ice, and air filling his hands. He moaned slightly from the pain and opened his eyes in the water. Nobody was there with him. He looked up at the surface of the cool water and didn’t see anyone. Confused, he started to swim back up.
When he got back up to the surface he looked around swiftly, distracted, he immediately smelled blood. The craving was too strong and instinct broke out of him, like a wild starving beast. He knew what he was and he was ready for this. He quickly followed the smell. It had led to his house. He went inside and found his father, soaked, staring at him with horror in his eyes. He had a knife in his hand. Vladimir slowly walked up to him, savoring the smell. When they were nose to nose the smell was unbearable.
“So who’s the tough guy now?” Vladimir asked with a smile, his teeth glimmering. His father didn’t say anything; He just stared at Vladimir, too shocked to say anything. Vladimir came a bit closer, then hesitated. Vladimir hesitated too long. His father swiftly took his right hand and sliced Vladimir’s eye with his knife. Vladimir jumped back and covered his eye with his hand. The pain stung slightly, but rage started to overcome everything.
“You’re going to pay for that!” Vladimir said gesticulating towards his father. As he waved his hand fog slowly crept out of his pores. He stood staring, fascinated suddenly, by his power. He spun in a small fast circle, arms out and closed his eyes. When he opened them all he could see was fog in his house. It looked like a white plague. Vladimir followed the smell of blood again. His nose had led him to a small puddle of blood on the dirt floor. He hissed, frustrated and swiftly turned around to find his father with his knife up in the air, ready to strike. With his pointed frozen hands, Vladimir grabbed his fathers’ head and shoulder. His father groaned and screamed as he bent his head out of the way. Vladimir slowly moved closer to his neck and blew cold air over it. The blood started pulsing faster from the cold temperature of his breath. He slowly bit down on his pulsing neck. Vladimir’s father made a gurgling noise and then went limp. Vladimir held him up and kept letting the sweet blood fill him with energy. The fog in the room was still very thick and he could hear his sisters crying in the other room. He dropped his father on the floor and ran out of the house before his senses took over and he hurt his loved ones.
The sun was already down and he ran as fast as he could away from home forever..

| This is who I am tonight ; |

[Vladimir is a young “19” year old. He has medium spiky light brown hair along with sharp “claw-like” hands that can produce ice, wind, fog, and water. He has burning red eyes that match his fiery personality. He always wears a black robe that covers scars his father left him. He doesn’t like to be around people very much and he’s always ready for a fight no matter what the cause. Vladimir is a little softy towards animals, although he doesn’t admit to it, and if he likes someone, he will NEVER admit it. ]
