Gazing out your window one day in early spring
You saw perched on a tree branch slightly thin
A timid little songbird most unlike her kin
For although her wings beat steady and strong
A wounded spirit had left her without a voice… without a song
With guidance and compassion you helped to heal the hurt inside
In time, she learned to let her voice ring out bright and clear
A song filled with hope and good cheer
Then one day, her heart brimming with courage and glee
The little songbird flew off for parts unknown
To see what she could see
Many seasons have passed since you both were parted
Sitting by your window as the early light of dawn draws near
A familiar tune reaches your ear
The little songbird has returned to greet you
She says thanks for being a friend so true
