Chapter 1
The Unseen - Prologue

What do you look for in a friend? Is it loyalty? Maybe it's companionship, maybe even love. Maybe you look for the person who will make you laugh during the bad times, who will cry with you when things get rough, who will be there when you need them most. I had a friend, once upon a time. A good friend, who treated me right. But when Damen came, we drifted apart. After that, we would never be the same.

Chapter One - Leaving

"You're such a jerk, Kai! Where are you?!"

I chuckled and knelt down behind the huge stage monitor. She'll never find me here, I thought to myself. Just then, a hand clamped itself onto my shoulder, and I let out an ear-splitting scream.

"Chill out! It's just me!"

I turned my head and sighed with relief when I saw that it was just Call, staring down with his bright blue eyes.

"What are you...!" "SHHH!!!"

I yanked him down beside me with one hand and covered his mouth with the other.

"Will you-" He yanked his face away and smoothed his black hair away from his eyes. "I am not to be handled in such a vicious manner!"

"Shut up!" I whispered, laying on the "vicious" as thickly as possible. He rolled his eyes before, thankfully, lowering his voice. "Why are you hiding down here?"

I rolled my eyes in return and answered, "If you must know, Amira's looking for me. I stole twenty bucks from her, and now she's out to get me!"

"I thought she owed you that twenty after you bailed her out of that 'situation'."

"She decided to be a stinge and keep it, saying she needed it. So I jacked it from her just to mess with her."

That's when we heard, "KAI! I swear to God, if you don't show up in the next five seconds, I'll smash your guitar!"

Gasp. Not my baby!

I scampered out from behind the monitor, Call following closely behind, and rushed over to Amira.

"Put down the guitar, and noone gets hurt!"

Amira snorted and growled, "Gimme my money back first."

"No, put down the guitar first!" I shot back.

"No, gimme the money!"

"The guitar!"

"The MONEY!"

"ALRIGHT! Alright, fine, you win." I raised my hands in mock surrender and dropped the twenty. As it floated down to the floor, Amira slowly leaned down and released my Antonio onto the floor.

As soon as the twenty touched ground, we each leaped for our possessions. I reached Antonio and stroked the black fretboard.

"It's okay, sweetie, I gotcha."

Amira and I faced each other once again. "Thanks."

I smiled. "Thanks yourself."

Call, left in the background, rolled his eyes.

Just then, Hiyei appeared, stunning, of course, in his ripped t-shirt-and-jean combo.

"What are you three doing? We're supposed to be practicing!"

Amira rolled her eyes. "We can't practice if our lead singer isn't present," she said, staring pointedly at him.

Hiyei ignored her and stepped up to the mic. He signaled us with his fingers, and we took our places: Call, on drums, Amira with the bass, and me on lead guitar.

"Let's warm-up first, then we'll move into our bit," Hiyei said.

So Call tapped his sticks twice, and we slid into 'Nothing Else Matters', by Metallica. I didn't normally like playing such mellow music, but I liked the band and the song, so it was okay.

"...Life is ours, we live it our way..."

Hiyei hugged the mic to him and, even though the stage wasn't lit and there weren't any people to scream for us, he was still getting heavy into it, his eyes squeezed shut and and his body swaying slowly to the music.
