This is a story I wrote about my grandfathers stroke in 6th grade, just found it so i decided to post it

We were all packed up for out big trip to Kentucky when the phone rang. We checked the caller ID and it was my Grandmother. She said, "Your Grandpa has something wrong with him. I don’t have a clue what is going on! The ambulance just took him to the hospital." My dad didn't let us go so; our mom had to stay home with us. When my dad got home he told us that Grandpa was okay and that we could go to Kentucky the next day. I knew that something had to be wrong with him though, i just didn't have the guts to ask what.

The next day I was up and out of bed ready to go to Kentucky. My dad called my Grandmother and when they were done talking my dad said, "Unpack the truck." We weren't going to go to Kentucky. We had the whole trip planned and it was going to be great! I knew after he said that, that something had to be wrong with him. So I decided to investigate.

It was around 9:00pm when i went to get a drink of water out of the bathroom. I heard my mom talking to my Grandmother in the other room. I decided to listen in on their conversation on the other line. I went downstairs and got the other phone and pressed the mute buttons. My grandmother said, "They found out what happened to Lester, (My grandpa) He has had a stroke.

I cried the whole night. We were never going to Kentucky, and my grandpa might die. My grandpa's whole left side of his body got paralyzed. He was still determined to walk though. He soon was able to walk with help, but he had to wear a leg brace.

----------------------------------

Now, I'll write the rest of the story.

----------------------------------

1-1/2 years later my grandfather began healing. He could talk, and mess around with us, he just couldn't walk. We all thought everything was become normal again and he would be fully healed. My family was beginning to have hope and becoming more faithful to god, but then my grandpa had his second stroke. The doctors told us that this time he wasn't going to make it.

My dad took us all to the hospital so we could see him one last time. My grandmother looked awful. She looked as if she had been in a brutal storm and she was totally torn apart. It felt awful to be in that little room with so many people and a man lying on a bed in front of us that we had known forever.

My grandpa had always been the one to joke around in the family. He had always had time for all of his grandchildren and never turned down a time to spend time with us. Being in that room was like god taking that away from me. Life was never going to be the same for me.

Hospos decided to help my grandfather and they brought him back to his home. He didn't want to spend his last minutes in a hospital bed; he wanted to spend it in his own home. We went to his house every day after that and when the day came we all knew.

We walked into his bedroom and he was breathing harder than ever. He slowly withered away and I was there to witness it. When you watch a person die it changes you as a person. I don't think I will ever be the same without him.

RIP LESTER 12.20.06
