Chapter 1 - Chapter 5
Chapter 1

What is her problem? I just don’t get why she’s so mad! I mean, really. Who would have thought that a person her age could get so mad? Not me, that’s for sure. All I told her was I got a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and she flipped out. She knew I was different. But I don’t think she expected me to learn about my ‘abnormality’ as she calls it. I have always been different; I have always been able to do things that I couldn’t explain. I could make things disappear, float, or even explode when I was angry, sad, or stressed. She knew; but she was afraid. The first thing you should know is that I was born on accident. Also, I never knew my father, who, without a doubt, would have taken better care of me than my always crabby mother. I was never aloud to have parties, and I had no friends because I was ‘strange looking’. My fiery red hair was curled into perfect ringlets naturally and my glass green eyes startled people.

I long to go see what it would be like at Hogwarts and be with people like me. I tore the letter open and read it eagerly. It said that I was accepted by the headmaster Albus Dumbledore, of whom I have never heard of. I read the list of required things and my heart dropped. A wand? Spell books? A cauldron? Where was I supposed to get thus stuff? I sat; puzzle, on my bed staring at the letter. Then I heard a knock on the door. I jumped up, ran down stairs, unlocked the door, and threw it open, hoping it was someone who wanted to talk to me. When I first opened the door, I was staring at a huge mass of fur and boots. I looked up slowly and saw the face of a man, covered with hair and very kind looking. I opened my mouth to say something, but nothing came out. The man reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper.

“Are you Kayla?” he asked his voice low and gravely. “I’m here to pick yer up fer Hogwarts, since your parents are dead and all.”

He looked down at me, expecting a response.

“Yea, I’m Kayla. I’ll just go get my mom.” I took off running down the hall and thumped on my mom’s door.” MOM! THERE’S SOME ONE HERE TO TAKE ME TO HOGWARTS!” I hollered.

My mom ripped open the door and ran down the hall. I stared after her in amazement. I had never seen her this excited about anything.

“Hagrid!” she exclaimed and hugged the huge man around the middle. “I’m so glad you got my letter. So you can take her? It was always his dream, you know.”

“Sure thing, Beth! Just have her pack and I’ll take her and Harry here to Diagon Alley.” The man named Hagrid said. Then he muttered. “Dumbledore’s kinda worried ‘bout it though. What if someone were to find out?!”

He looked anxious, but I wasn’t paying attention to him. Diagon Alley? And there’s another kid with him? I peered around him just as a boy about my age, eleven, looked around. He had messy black hair and behind his broken glasses were…glass green eyes. We were both startled and I turned quickly and ran to my room. As I threw my few clothes into a backpack, I heard Hagrid laugh.

“She’s a pretty one she is. What do you think Harry?

I don’t know if he replied because my mom ran in and pressed a key into my hand.

“Don’t lose this! You need it!” she said and she ran back out of my room. I stared at her as she departed. I followed her out of the room and into the kitchen where I grabbed a Tupperware container and dropped my fire ball into it, sealed the lid, and stuffed it in my back pack. I carried my pack to the door and looked from my mom’s excited face to Hagrid’s wide smile.

“I’m ready.” I said, still a bit dazed.

Mom and Hagrid ushered me out the door. I followed Hagrid and Harry up the walk and turned balk to wave to my mom. She waved back and blew a kiss, then closed the door. I turned back to see Hagrid staring at me.

“Here. Take my hands you two.” He said, holding out his hands.

We hesitantly took them and then we were whirling around. The next thing I knew, we were standing in front of a run down pub called The Leaky Cauldron, according to the to the sign hanging from above the door. Hagrid pushed us inside. Harry and I looked around and I took in sights I had never seen before. Cloaks, wands, cauldrons, and many other strange things. I was struck dumb until a man called out to us.

“Hello Hagrid! Shall I get you the usual?” he asked, picking up a bottle of brandy.

“No thanks! I’m on official Hogwarts business. Just gettin’ young Harry and Kayla here their school supplies.” Hagrid said.
The whole room went quiet at the mention of our names. The first person who spoke was the bartender.

“Bless my soul, its Harry Potter.” He said in a whisper.

Every one was on us, shaking our hands and telling us things. Hagrid pushed us out the backdoor, where we met a brick wall. He tapped a few of the bricks and then they all moved to form an arch way. I strode, mouth open, but no words coming out, while Harry’s eyes opened as wide as apples.

“Welcome to Diagon Alley,” Hagrid said.

Chapter 2

Hagrid strode ahead of us and Harry and I followed him, walking close together out of fear and excitement. Hagrid was pointing things out as we walked down the crowded street when I heard Harry speak for the first time.

“But Hagrid, I’ve no money. How am I supposed to pay for it all?” he looked up at Hagrid’s huge face.

“Gringots of course. The wizard bank. Didn’t think yer parents would leave yeh poor, now did ya?” Hagrid replied, still lumbering forward.

We walked into a huge building and I gasped. Walking around were tiny, weird looking men. Harry was amazed.

“Hagrid, what exactly are these things?” he asked Hagrid, looking around.

“Goblins. Clever as they come, but not the friendliest of beasts.” Hagrid said.

We walked up to the goblin at the end of the row of desks. Hagrid cleared his throat and the goblin looked up.

“Ms. Kayla and Mr. Potter would like to make a withdrawal.” Hagrid stated.

“Well, does Ms. Kayla have her key?” the goblin replied.

I dug into the pocket of my torn jeans and brought out the key mom had given me earlier. I held it up for the goblin to inspect.

“Very good,” the goblin said. “And what about Mr. Harry Potter?” He leaned over his desk to stared Harry in the face.

“Oh, I have it here somewhere,” Hagrid said as he searched himself.

He pulled out a small key almost identical to mine and an envelope. He whispered something to the goblin. He nodded and got up from his desk and led us to a cart on a pair of tracks. We climbed in and the cart took off at lightning sped. A few minutes later, we stopped with an abrupt jerk in front of a vault.

“Key please,” the goblin stated.

I handed him my key and he placed it in the vault’s key hole and handed me a medium sized bag. He then turned the key in the lock and swung the door open. Lying there was a pile of gold coins. I scooped up a handful and stuffed them into my bag. Then I stepped out, watching the door swing close again. I got back into the cart and sat down next to Harry. We lurched off and then stopped in front of the vault that I guessed was Harry’s. Sure enough, Harry stood and handed the goblin his key. His door swung open and he gathered a handful of coins. When he came and sat back down, I couldn’t help but notice how pretty his eyes were. They were a bit darker than mine, but they were sort of a hypnotizing color of green. He was examining a small piece of gold in his hand. He finished and looked up suddenly, catching me looking at him. We just stared at each other for a heart beat or two, then I felt my face grow hot and I looked down just as the cart lurched to a stop.

“Vault 713,” the goblin said. “Stand back.”

He ran his long nail down the door. We heard several locks and gears turns and open. Then, the door swung open reveling what was inside. A pedestal with a grubby looking package tied in string was sitting in the middle of the tiny vault. Hagrid ambled forward and grabbed the package, shoving it into his front pocket.

“Best not to mention this to anyone,” he stated.

We both nodded, and he climbed back in and squeezed into his spot, so that, once again, I found myself squashed up against Harry. I heard him inhale through his nose, then exhale, like he was smelling something … or someone. I grabbed a ringlet that was hanging down in my face and sniffed it. It smelled like lavender. Huh, I thought, that’s weird. I wonder what he could be smelling here, of all places.

The cart slammed to a stop and we all climbed out. I stumbled a bit; my legs were kind of stiff, but righted myself. Harry looked at me quizzically.

“Motion sickness?” he asked, speaking to me directly for the first time.

“No, it’s just… I think that’s the first time I’ve gone at a sped like that,” I replied, still tripping over my own feet.

Harry reached out, grabbed my shoulder, and steadied me.

“Come on,” he said. “We should go catch up with Hagrid.”

He kind of pushed me forward, his hand still on my shoulder. We walked like that out of the building, and then he moved his hand and pointed.

“There’s where we should go first, to get our wands,” he said

When I nodded in agreement, he took off, me following close behind him. We entered the shop and looked around.

“Hello? Is any one here?” I finally asked.

A very old man slid into view on a ladder.

“Ah! Mr. Potter! I was wondering when I would see you in here!” he exclaimed.

He got off the ladder and walked over to us.

“Well, who’s going to go first?” he asked with enthusiasm.

“Uh, I’ll go first, I guess,” I volunteered.

“Wonderful! I know just the wand, I think,” he said and disappeared.

I looked around the small shop again, and then looked at Harry. He was already staring at me and then I looked at him he blushed scarlet and looked at the floor. Then the old man walked back in with a box in his hand.

“Here we go!” he said as he handed me the wand.

The wand glowed and pulsated in my hand. Startled, I let go of the wand and put it on the desk.

“I knew it! Yes I did!” he cried. “That particular wand will be 20 galleons.”

He looked at me expectantly and I fished the money out of my pocket and handed it to him. He dropped it into a drawer then turned to Harry.

“Thank you Ms. Kayla. Now for Harry!” he took off into the back again.

I opened my box and looked at the wand inside. It was black as night with a small gold speck at the end. It was beautiful. I ran my finger over the polished wood as the man brought back two boxes. He handed one of the boxes to Harry. Harry took it in his hand, but nothing happened.

“Well, give it a wave!” the man said.

Harry gave the wand a small flick and several boxes went fling from the shelf.

“No! Definitely not! Here try this one,” he handed Harry another wand.

Harry gave it a tiny flick. A vase with a black rose in it shattered on the desk.

“Definitely not,” the man disappeared into the back again.

“Can I see your wand, Kayla?” Harry asked me.

“Oh, sure. Let me get it out again,” I grabbed the box out of my back pack and opened it. I was about to turn to face him when he pointed over my shoulder.

“Bloody hell! What is that?” he asked.

I told him the story about my fifth birthday and about how my mom was totally freaked out.

“That’s amazing! I set a python on my cousin Dudley once but that is amazing!” he exclaimed as he poked the fireball with great interest.

“You can talk to snakes?” I asked as I blushed at his praise.

Before he could reply, the old man came back into the front room with a single box in his wrinkled hand. He opened the box and handed it to Harry. The wand glowed and pulsated exactly as mine had, but the man was stunned.

“Curious, very curious,” the man whispered as he boxed up the wand and gave it to Harry.

“I’m sorry, but what’s curious?” Harry asked.

I didn’t hear the man’s reply because I was distracted by Hagrid who knocked on the window. He had a cage with something in it in his hand, but the window was fogged up so much I couldn’t see. Harry and I said thank you to the man and walked out the door.

“Happy birthday Harry!” Hagrid said as he gave him the cage, which had a brilliant snowy owl in it.

“Thanks Hagrid!” Harry said, and I smiled.

Chapter 3

A few hours later, after we had gotten our school supplies, we went to the train station. Hagrid handed us our tickets and then looked at the clock.

“Blimey, I that the time? I’m gonna have to leave ya now. Professor Dumbledore will…want to see me,” Hagrid exclaimed.

We looked down at our tickets, then Harry spoke, confused.

“Hagrid, this ticket says nine and three quarters...there’s no such thing… is there?” he looked up, and jumped.

I looked up to and realized that Hagrid had disappeared. We pushed our trolleys down to platforms nine and ten and looked around. Then we saw a group of odd looking people hurrying past us.

“This is the same every year!” the old lady squawked.” Packed with muggles as always. Come now! This way to platform nine and three quarters!”

Harry said something under his breath and shot of in the direction of the group of people. I was nearly running to keep up with him. Just as we got there, one of the red headed boys went running at the wall between the platforms. Then, when he should have hit it, he disappeared! Like that wall had swallowed him up. Then two boys, twins I guessed, ran at the wall after him, also disappearing. I blinked rapidly, and Harry shook his head like a dog, disbelieving.

“Excuse me? Um could you tell us-“he started.

“How to get unto the platform? Of course. Its Ron’s first time to!” she sad, kindly. The boy named Ron tentatively smiled at us. When I smiled back, he went brick red. “All you have to do is run straight at the wall, you’ll slip through, and then you’ll be there! Very simple.”

Harry took his spot in front of the wall. I could tell he was nervous, his hands were shaking. But then he turned to me.

“Do you want to go together, Kayla?” he asked me, turning his green eyes on me.

I nodded and went over to stand next to him. We both took a couple of breaths, and then I counted us off.

“One, two three.”

We charged at the wall. I closed my eyes right before we hit, but I didn’t smash into it like I thought I was going too. We went right through it, appearing on the other side. As my gaze fell onto the scarlet train with Hogwarts Express written across the front, my mouth dropped open. I only came back to reality when Harry tugged on my arm.

“Let’s go get a compartment,” he said and walked ahead of me.

I ran after him, not wanting to get lost of in trouble. We stuffed our trunks in the storage bin, then went and found a compartment with no one inside. I sat down while Harry closed the door, then he sat down next to me. There was a long awkward pause, and then Harry spoke.

“So…..you never knew your parents either?” he asked.

“I only know my mom,” I answered. “Did yours get….killed?” I turned my green eyes on him.

“When I was a baby,” Harry answered, putting his hands behind his head and looking up at the ceiling. “All I know is that Lord Voldemort killed them, and….”- his face had a look of what I interpreted as pain-“he tried to kill me too.”

He looked so sad; it made me want to hug him. Right as I was about to tell him not to worry, the compartment door slid open and we both looked up. The boy who we’d met earlier stuck his head in.

“Do you mid?” he asked, gesturing to the empty seat across from us. “Every where else is full.”

“Nope. There’s plenty of room,” Harry answered.

The boy sat down on the bench opposite us, then stuck out his hand.

“I’m Ron by the way, Ron Weasly,” he said.

“I’m Kayla, Kayla Phoenix,” I said as I shook his hand, which was warm and soft.

“And I’m Harry, Harry Potter,” Harry said.

Ron’s eyes went wider than apples. He opened and closed his mouth a couple times, then spoke.

“Do you really have the……scar?” he asked.

I was immediately curious. Harry smiled and lifted up his untidy black hair. There on his forehead was a scar, shaped exactly like lightning. It was slightly pink and ended right above his left eyebrow.

“Cool!” Ron said.

Harry let his hair fall back into place. I said nothing but just looked at him. Then he turned to me, and I spoke without thinking.

“Can I see it again?”

“Uh, huh,” Harry said, lifting back up his bangs.

“Hmmm…..so this is from when Voldemort tried to kill you?” I asked, tracing the scar with my finger.

“Yeah,” he replied, watching me with those eyes. “I’ve always thought it was cool. My aunt and uncle thought otherwise.”

“Huh…” I said as means of reply. The more I looked at it, the more I realized what it looked like.

“Hey! That looks similar to a birthmark I have!” I remarked, holding out my left hand.

On my left palm, I have a crescent moon shaped birthmark. It’s slightly paler than the rest of my palm, and it always cold.

“Wow, lots of weird marks today!” Ron exclaimed.

Harry said nothing but looked at my palm. Then he picked up my hand and examined it more closely. My skin tingled when he touched, like it was going numb. He traced with his finger as I had done. It seemed as though he had forgotten Ron and I were there. Then he set my hand down just as an old lady with a wrinkled face and a trolley filled with candy knocked on the door.

“Anything off the trolley dears?” she asked.

“No thanks…I’m all set,” Ron said in a sad reply, holding up two disgusting looking sandwiches.

I made a face and Ron grinned. The Harry dug his money out of his pocket.

“We’ll take the lot,” he said.

Chapter 4

A little while later, we were finishing off the candy. Harry was examining the cards that came with the chocolate frogs and he had Dumbledore. I was anxious to see his picture. Ron was telling us about a spell he got from his twin brothers to turn his rat yellow. He was just about to try it when a girl about our age stuck her head in the compartment. She had brown busy hair, brown eyes, rather large front teeth, and was rather thin and plain.

“Has any one seen a toad?” she asked in a snotty sounding voice. “A boy named Nevil’s lost one.” Then she noticed that Ron had his wand out. “Oh, you’re doing magic? Let’s see then.”

She walked over and nearly sat on me. I moved just in time. But there wasn’t enough room on the bench, so I was squashed up against Harry. Ron cleared his throat and said his spell very clearly.

“Sunshine, daisies, butter, mellow…turn this stupid fat rat yellow!” he pointed his wand at his rat, and a small light exploded out of the end of his wand. His rat squeaked, but remained gray.

“Are you sure that’s a real spell? Well it’s not very good is it?” she said. “I’ve only tried a few simple spells…but they’ve all worked for me. I’m Hermione Granger by the way. And you are?” she looked at us expectantly.

“Kayla, Ron, and Harry,” I answered for us, appalled at her rudeness.

“Oh wow! Really? Harry Potter? I know all about you,” she said. Then she got up. “Well, you should change into your robes, we’ll be arriving soon.” She flounced out of the compartment.

“Well, she was bloody rude,” I said, and Harry and Ron burst out laughing.

“You really are straight foreword, aren’t you?” Harry asked when he could breathe again.

The Ron and he laughed some more. I felt my self turning redder and redder by the second, so I stood up and fished my robes out of my bags.

“Well, I’ll go change in the bathroom,” I said, crossing to the door. “The Ron and he laughed some more. I felt my self turning redder and redder by the second, so I stood up and fished my robes out of my bags.

“Well, I’ll go change in the bathroom,” I said, crossing to the door. “You can change in here.” I walked out of the compartment.

After I found the bathroom, which took a couple minutes, I had to wait for others to use it before I could change. When I got back to the compartment, Harry and Ron were already changed, and were sitting and talking. When I came in, they let me join the conversation. It was nice, talking with people, maybe… like friends.

Chapter 5

A couple of hours later, the train stopped and we gathered our stuff. When we hopped off the train into the station, Hagrid was waiting for all the first years at the station.

“All firs’ years follow me!” he hollered easily over the noise. “Firs’ years!”

All the first years gathered nervously around him, looking at each other. Harry, Ron, and I stood toward the back.

“Follow me! Down here!” Hagrid yelled, walking ahead of us.

We all timidly followed him around the bend in the small path. Then there was a chorus of gasps. A large lake, black as coal and smooth as glass, was before us, reflecting the glare of the moon and stars above. A cluster of small boats was waiting for us at the water’s edge.

“No more ‘n five to a boat,” Hagrid said.

Harry, Ron, and I climbed into one, closely followed by Hermione and Neville. I elbowed Ron in the ribs and made a face when she sat down. He sniggered and she looked at us, clearly annoyed. I turned my head to look across the lake at the huge castle in front of us.

“FOREWARD!” Hagrid instructed the boats.

The boats started to glide across the black, glassy water of the lake towards the castle. Once we were in the castle, we walked up three flights of stairs, but then were stopped by a black-haired, tight-lipped, no-nonsense looking woman in a tall, black pointed hat and emerald green robe. Hagrid lumbered off to a door, and when he opened it, a flood of prattle and laughter. It closed with a bang, and then the woman introduced herself as Professor McGonagall.

“All first years must be sorted into their houses. You will wait here for me to come and get you,” she swept out of our presence and into the huge room where the rest of the school was.

There were a couple of moments of silence, then a boy with a cold, sarcastic voice spoke.

“So is it true? What people are saying on the train?” he spat with obvious disdain. “That the famous Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts.”

Harry tensed beside me. Then we both turned and looked at the boy. He was extremely pale, with ice blue eyes and white blonde hair that was slicked back with gel. He crossed to us, coming to stop in front of Harry.

“I’m Draco Malfoy, the boy said, and Ron coughed, apparently hiding a snicker. “Think my name is funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. Red hair and a hand-me-down robe? You must be a Weasly.” He spat.

Ron’s face went as red as my hair. But he just made a face and looked at his feet. If I were him, I would have punched him in the face. I felt myself growing more irritated by the second. Then he looked at me and said the most stunning thing ever.

“We should talk later.” He winked at me as he said this.

I was so shocked that I couldn’t say anything. But out of the corner of my eye, I saw Harry ball one of his hands up into a fist.

“You will soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others. You don’t want to go making friends with the wrong type,” Malfoy sneered, glancing. Ron started like he was going to punch him, but I grabbed his shoulder and gave him a warning look. Malfoy continued. “I can help you there.”

He stuck out his hand. There were a few murmurs going around. Furious, Harry just shook his head.

“I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself,” Harry said through clenched teeth.

“Fine,” Malfoy said as Professor McGonagall walked up.

“The ceremony will begin now,” she said. “Follow me.”

~***********~

We followed McGonagall into the hall. I looked up at the ceiling and was surprised to see the night sky above me. That must be bewitched. But now, I wouldn’t be surprised about anything! I thought. I looked up at the staff table and the four other tables. I stepped a bit closer to the boys, who were standing next to me. Ron looked nervous as hell, and Harry, like I was, was looking around, confused and interested. Ron noticed that I looked a little scared as well, because he whispered some encouragement to me.

“Don’t’ worry, Kayla. All you have to do is put that hat on and it will put you into a house.”

I nodded my head and smiled weakly. Harry finally stopped looking around and looked really nervous. I leaned over and whispered what Ron had said in his ear.

“Don’t worry,” I added because he still looked nervous. “It will be fine.”

“Potter, Harry,” a voice suddenly said.

We were both startled, and we looked up to see the professor looking around at the small group of first years left. Harry nervously started forward. The whole hale bloomed into murmurs and gossip.

“Harry Potter, did she say?”

“As in, the Harry Potter”

Harry sat nervously on the stool, and McGonagall placed the hat on his head. Immediately, it came to life. I could tell it was talking to him, because Harry kept shaking his head and muttering. A couple minutes later, the hat reached a conclusion.

“Gryffindor!” it shouted in glee.

Harry looked relived as he bounded off the stool and took a seat next to Ron’s twin brothers.

“Weasly, Ronald,”

Ron’s face went white. He slowly walked up to the stool and sat down.

“Ha!” the hat shouted out loud. “Another Weasly. I know just where to put you.” Ron looked terrified, but that was because it was actually speaking to him out loud. “Gryffindor!”

Ron got shakily to his feet and went and sat across from Harry. I looked at them both as a couple of others went. Then it was my turn.

“Phoenix, Kayla.”

I started up nervously, tugging at my skirt. I sat on the stool and the professor went to put the hat on my head. As soon as it touched my head, however, the hat gave a shout.

“Whoa!”

I jumped with fright.

“My word, I believe we have another Slytherin here!” a small voice hissed into my ear.

My eyes opened wide as I glanced over at the Slytherin table. I don’t know if it was just from what I had been told about the lot, but they looked extremely unpleasant. I shook my head. Please no! Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease! I pleaded inside my head.

“Oh, really? Are you sure. I can feel you would be happy in Slytherin.” The voice hissed again. I shook my head vigorously. “No? Well then, I better but you in….” I waited with baited breath. “Gryffindor!” the hat shouted to the whole hall.

I was instantly filled with relief. The table started cheering, and I happily sat down next to Harry. The last few people were sorted into their houses, and then Dumbledore stood. The whole hall went silent, and Harry, Ron, and I looked up.

“Before we start, I would like to announce a few start of term notices,” he called to the crowd of students. “First years, and I think a couple of our older students could use a reminder of this to, please note that the dark forest is forbidden. Also, our caretaker Argus Filch would like to say that the third floor corridor is off limits for anyone who does not wish to die a most painful death. That is all! Let the feast….begin!”

Suddenly, the empty plates and platters that were in front of us were filled with food. All I could do was stare for a couple minutes.

“There’s so much food!” Harry and I exclaimed at the same time.

All the Weaslys burst out laughing and started to serve themselves. I hesitantly reached out and took an apple from the basket in front of me. It was perfectly red and round and when I bit into it, it was sweet as sugar. We ate for a couple hours, also meeting some of the ghosts from the castle and other people at the Gryffindor table. I didn’t really say much. In fact, the only times I spoke was when someone asked me a direct question. I was still in shock over what the hat had said. I believe we have another Slytherin here. The words were echoing in my head, over and over and over. But I didn’t really need to pay attention. Mostly, the only people who talked to me were the Weaslys and Harry. But, it was nice to be included in the conversation, even if I didn’t really put much into it. After a while, after the shock had finally left me, I talked with Harry about life before we came here. When he told me that he had to sleep in a cupboard under the stairs, I was amazed. Paired with the fact tat all of his clothes were hand me downs from his fat cousin Dudley, it made my mother seem almost human. While we talked, I realized that we had quite a few things in common. Our parents (or aunt and uncle in Harry’s case) were both not thrilled about having a magical person under their roof. Also, at school, we were both considered freaks. When he told me I was amazed. Why? I thought.

“People thought I looked weird,” he said, clarifying. “My eyes-”

“Startled people?” I finished, looking up from my lap.

“Yea….how did you…?” he asked.

“Same thing happened with me. People said they were disturbing,” I said. Then I made a face. “They called me kitty al the time. It was so annoying, but I got used to it after a while.” I twirled a ringlet around my finger and looked back down at my lap.

“So it’s stuck?” he asked to my surprise. I looked up and nodded my head. “Okay, kitty.” He said with a smile.

I smiled too.

Prologue
Epilogue

It all started on my fifth birthday. I was sitting in my room with the door locked, listening to my mom scream at me through the white painted wood door. I was furious and kept shouting things back at her. I got so mad tears started to roll down my face and burn my hands. I looked down at my bed to be startled enough to fall off it. My tears wear rolling down my cheeks in small balls of fire and collecting on the fibers of my blanket like dew on grass. I picked up the small ball of fire in my hands, now oblivious to the screaming coming from the other side of the door. Slowly, I got up and crossed to the door. I unlocked it and opened it to see my mother’s enraged face turn from purple to white with fear.

”P-put it d-down, Kayla. N-now,” she said, staring at the ball in my hands.

“No,” I said.

She turned and fled down the hallway and slammed her door so hard that the house shook. I went down stairs to the kitchen, got a bowl and placed my fire ball in it.

I still have it. It sits on my nightstand and grows when I am happy and decreases when I am sad or stressed. It is my most prized possession. My mother is afraid of me because of what I am. I am a witch.

Chapter 1

I had never seen her this happy.

The next thing I knew, we were standing in front of a run down pub called The Leaky Cauldron, according to the to the sing hanging from the door.

Chapter 2

I set a python on my cousin Dudley once but that is amazing!” he exclaimed.

Chapter 3

Chapter 4 (( or as much as i typed))
Chapter 4

A little while later, we were finishing off the candy and Ron was telling us about a spell he got from his twin brothers to turn his rat yellow.

A couple of hours later, the train stopped and we gathered our stuff. When we hopped off the train into the station, Hagrid was waiting for all the first years
