There were 8 people, including myself living in the house at the time (no it isn’t my house) 5 adults and 3 kids. The young kids brought lice into the house. I don’t think I got them but we all were supposed to use the shampoo to kill them. We only had enough shampoo for the kids. So one of the other adults and myself had to us kerosene. (Kerosene is like gas. It is used in lamps and things).Kerosene will kill lice.
So I got home from school and was informed of the situation.
I was making dinner that night, chicken vegetables soup. I let the soup simmer on the stove. I had the ventilation fan on and the back door open. I had wrapped a towel around my forehead so kerosene wouldn’t get into my eyes. I bent my head over the kitchen sink and the kerosene pored was pored on my head. My first thought was, wow these stuff is kind of cold. Then I felt like I was on fire.
The first thing I did was to cover my face. I fell on the ground and rolled. The fire was
Mostly out but my hair was still on fire so I ran out to the front yard.
And said “get the hose idiot.” They did and the fire was out. They called an ambulance.
Before it got there, I called my mom and let her know what happened.
All sorts of things were going through my mind. Will my looks be okay? Are my hands going to be ok? Will I be in the hospital long?
When the ambulance got there they asked me the kind of thing you might expect. Did you inhale smoke, and specifically what happened? The firemen asked me if I was in any pain. I told them yes but the pain is not as bad as I thought it would be. At that time, they gave me morphine through the I.V.
I was in and out after that. I remember the emergence room, my parents being there, and being sent to the tub room (it’s where they cleaned all the burned skin and tissue off) and telling them not to cut all my hair off. They didn’t have to cut my hair since much of it was burned. Then I was in a private room with all kinds of machines and I.V.s sticking out of my body. They told me I was going to have surgery.
I needed skin graphs on my arms and hands. So they sent me to the surgery room where they put a gas mask on my face and told me to breath deep. I did and my last thought before I went under was that this stuff smells funny. next thing I know I’m back in my room my first thought was “my throat hurts.” one of the nurses came and asked me what the first and last thing I thought I tolled her. I was moved out of the burn word and sent to recovery for 3 or 4 days I was visited by sum of my friends(thanks guys ^_^)them they moved me back to the burn word they checked on my graphs and they tolled my all was well and I was healing well.
The most painful day of my life was wean they removed the staples from my arms and hands (yes they stapled the skin graphs to you) it got kind of boring after that
Tacking pills, going to the tub room (it heart a lot every time) having my vital signs checked every 4 hoers, the food being bad, ext. My parents weir their every day and I was visited by my family and friends (witch was not boring ^_^)
I was let out of the hospital after abut 20 days my mom was shown how to care for my burns.
I’m now back to almost 100% I have to stay out of the sun for a year and I will have to weir special sleeves and gloves (to help with the scaring) for 2 years im back in school
And I’m doing well. ^_^
