Time Spent in Osage: Only been in town for a few days after deciding this is where she wanted to stay
Household: Rina lives alone in her newly purchased yet run down cottage in the residential area
Backstory: Rina never really knew what a normal life was. But then again, in this day and age, who really did? From the day she was born to the moment she arrived to Osage life had been an absolute struggle and her own personal hell. Despite her feelings now, at one point, she did have a sort of happiness. As good of a happiness as anyone could have after the world people had known went to s**t. She even had a mother and father at one point, and they meant the world to her. They were the reason she felt like she was supposed to be here.
When Rina was ten years old, her father was attacked and infected when he went on an outing with a few of the men in the group her and her parents had been traveling in. The smiles they shared in the toxic world soon came to an abrupt end once her father was gone. He was what really motivated her and her mother to be strong and keep going. He assured them that there would be something better out there for them someday. That they just had to take it one day at a time and look out for each other. That as long as they all had each other nothing could split them up. I guess he didn't expect to fall into a nest of some lingering infected and be torn to shreds from their hunger while the others he was with could do nothing but watch in horror.
As soon as Rina's mother learned of his death that was the start of what felt like the end for Rina. Her mother became quite the lifeless shell, her smile no longer shined bright like Rina remember. In fact, her mother became someone she could hardly recognize. She became cold and defeated, completely consumed by the fact that life had no more meaning if everything she had worked so hard to keep in tact could be taken from her so easily. A few months passed of traveling alone with her mother, who had decided to separate from their previous group after blaming them for the death of her father and their careless actions. While Rina didn't agree with the decision to leave the group, she knew she couldn't stay with them either. Her mother was all she had left, even thought she wasn't the slightest bit like what she used to be like. The mother she used to look up to and feel safe with.
It had only been a few months since her father's death and Rina and her mother were struggling to survive, nearly escaping starvation or the clutches of nearby infected. Her mother would have a breakdown daily, more than once, leaving Rina to fend for herself at the early age of 11 and take care of her mother, who should have been the one taking care of her. Rina worked hard so her father's death wouldn't have been in vain. She worked hard for herself and for her mother, but it wasn't enough. It wasn't enough for her mother, who Rina found one morning hanging from a tree with a note in her hand. Rina didn't cry. She didn't feel sad. If anything, she was angry. Angry that life had cursed the world like this. Angry that her mother was selfish, angry that her father was careless, but most of all she was angry at the fact that she was alone. She was an 11 year old girl who lost both of her parents in the time span of a year over situations that could have been avoided. But there was nothing she could do. So she moved on.
Within a decade, Rina saw a lot of things she never thought she'd ever see in her life. She traveled with groups, but most of them time her groups would be torn apart, either by starvation, the left over yet dwindling infected, or what she thought was the worst of them all: ruthless and murderous scavengers. She once witnessed an entire caravan slaughtered over the hunt they had worked so hard to catch. While her faith in the world depleted, she knew she couldn't give up. She didn't want to be like her mother, she didn't want to have all her hard work and survival pay off for nothing. These last few years she had been traveling alone. She figured it would be easier not to get too attached to anyone, but as time went on she had a wanting for a place to call home. She had been on the move since she was born and had never stayed still in one place. But now that the infected's number were diminishing, she felt it safe to finally settle down somewhere. This was when she stumbled upon Osage.
Personality: Rina is kind of a negative person. After everything she experienced at an early age and feeling the need to mature early, she didn't have time to goof off or just be a kid. She doesn't really open up to people in fear of becoming too attached to them then losing them, but she also isn't a mean or rude person. She is friendly, she just likes to keep her distance. She always expects a bad outcome so that if it happens, she can be prepared for it. She's also very self efficient if she needs to be, considering she's mainly had to take care of herself the majority of her life. Sometimes she likes to call herself the jack of all trades but the master of nothing.
Abilities:
- Mental: While Rina is a smart girl, she often lets her past get her down. Despite making it this far on her own she still can't help but think about everything that went wrong in her life. When it gets really bad, she can't help but have a mini breakdown. But then she is reminded of her mother, then filled with anger and the determination to keep going and try her hardest even if it is a pain sometimes.
Physical: Physically, Rina is doing pretty alright for herself. She's had to do a lot of climbing, hunting, and fending for herself which ended up in her having a pretty tough body and a high tolerance for pain, despite the way she looks.
Social: Rina tends to keep to herself in social situations unless something sparks her interest. She hasn't had much interaction with people in the past several years so she might not be the best at conversation but that doesn't mean she's not entirely interested. She's met a lot of different people throughout her travels but she's never really had someone she could call a friend. Not that she's not willing to try now!
Weapon of Choice: Her father's bow and arrows and a battle axe she picked up a couple of years ago
Fun Facts:
- ➨Rina really likes to draw. While she's good at a few different things and willing to help out to get things done more efficiently, drawing has been the one thing she truly has a passion for. She might not be the best, but to her it's the only thing she feels she's genuinely good at.
➨Despite the bitterness she feels towards her mother, Rina still carries the note her mother held in her hand at the site of her suicide. She's not entirely sure why she can't let it go. It might be some sort of a reminder to never give up, or it might just be a reminder of her parents and the life they once lived together.
➨Since she's been on the move since she was born, Rina has never really made a single friend. Nor has she ever had her first kiss or experienced love. Hell, she's never let anybody even get that close enough to try it.
