Psyche hopes to help others find an everlasting love that she so gratefully wandered upon long ago.Appearance: Psyche-------------- Hair color: ..A calm hazel curtain of waves..-------------- Eye color: ..Jade green..-------------- Height: ..Nearing five feet and four inches..-------------- Weight: ..Must a woman give her weight?..Bio: Psyche, being the youngest of three daughters, turned out to be more beautiful than any other woman to walk the earth as a mortal. Her beauty threatened even those above her that were spoken of as Goddesses: Venus, Aphrodite, Demeter... More beautiful than the setting sun, the men could do nothing more than watch her in awe. Nothing more, quite literally, indeed. No man ever asked for her hand in marriage and her parents began to fret about what would come of her future. Begging for help, they prayed to the gods above and sought an oracle for guidance.
Psyche found herself atop the highest peak of Cyprus, dressed in omniscient drag. A gentle wind roused her, however. And she wondered off the beaten path into the forest. Emerging out of the trees into a wondrous valley, the maiden curiously ventured to a nearby fortress where she was treated kindly and given shelter until nightfall. The lord of the house arrived in the depths of night. Psyche never saw his face, but he treated her with more respect and care than she thought possible, asking her to stay with him but informing her she was never to look upon his being.
Allowed to bring her sisters for a visit, Psyche gave them a personal tour of the palace she came to know and love as home. When they questioned about her lover, though, the young girl couldn't give them much of a description. Driven by silent jealousy her two sisters subtly tormented her with questions to why he didn't want to be seen and if he loved her, he wouldn't hide himself unless he was hideous. They left her, promising to visit again but Psyche, planning to see her lover tonight, was too busy thinking of what she would need.
Night came as it did every night, and he followed. On the bedside table Psyche set the candle and a bronze dagger. If the ideas she'd conjured proved true, the dagger would lay rest to the heart of the beast in her bed.
The breathing beside her evened, rhythmical and deep. Quietly she moved to light the candle and look upon the face of the beast at rest. When she saw what lay beneath the sheets, Psyche gasped in awe. Eros's golden skin shone in the candle light, the white wings of his feathers stirring slightly in the breeze through their window. Struck by his presence and the realization that he was far from a monster, Psyche lost her bearing on the candle and wax burned across the chest of her beloved. Naturally, Eros woke in fright, his heart breaking when he understood what she had done. He fled, leaving the woman alone and never returning.
Long story short, Psyche refused to give up her love for him. In the end it was Venus who promised to help her. The Goddess Venus, still jealous and now angered by the mortal's actions that hurt Eros (her son), took her in and gave her many tasks that were meant to conclude in Psyche's death. Each task the maiden passed, grateful for the offers of help she received with each. Upon her last task of leaving the underworld, Psyche looked within the box supposedly containing beauty. Hades and Venus had tricked the poor girl. When she lifted the lid, a great sleep overtook her. Eros, at this point, having forgiven Psyche flew to her rescue.
Her love went to the highest of Gods, asking to have her for his own. His love for her convinced them all to consent. They authorized Psyche into the immortal kingdom, where she could live with Eros eternally. From their love came their progeny: Voluptas. Psyche now takes pride and part in the modern Valentine's celebration, hoping to bring couples closer, singles happiness with a hope of finding their true love, and gifts that symbolize passion.Other: ..Nothing Currently..Themesong: Lovely HarpExtra: The Story of Psyche
