Sporadically funny, and ridiculous enough to keep some fans happy ... but even a solid cast can't sustain one joke this long. - Shadows On The Wall

You'll have seen a lot of this before but that won't be a problem for lovers of 'big' comedy and die-hard Ferrell fans. - Channel 4 Film

Despite some obvious flaws, ‘Step Brothers’ remains a hugely enjoyable, well-constructed slice of lowbrow Saturday night entertainment, leaving Ferrell’s position as the reigning king of US comedy secure for a while longer. - TimeOut

It’s no Anchorman, but it’s several steps in the right direction. - Empire Magazine

At the end you are just left admiring one of Slater’s best ever performances. - Sun Online

Christian Slater's dedicated performance aside, He Was A Quiet Man tries to be both a black comedy and a drama, each ultimately undermining the other. - Channel 4 Film

Although the budget is low and the plot uneven, it’s got a certain cultish charm that should appeal to disaffected office workers. - Daily Mirror

Combining the mordant observations of The Office with the twisted romance of Boxing Helena, this macabre farce is an acquired taste, whose fantastical flourishes and toilet humour merely heighten the unsettling perversity of the whole. - BBC

What are you going to do? It's cool to be the first game to put players in control of a John Woo gunfight, but to be yet another movie waving double guns in slow motion, not so much. - Can Magazine

Slaloms between gritty action and comic-book noir before skidding out into overblown fantasy. The plotline is weak and stretched-out. As the end nears, the pacing gets choppy. But by then, Max Payne lost that important sidekick, Minnie Pleasure. - Vue Weekly

The fans attracted to Max Payne will readily leave any disbelief by the doors as the action ramps up. - Reeling Reviews

Tropic Thunder is, almost necessarily, a hit-and-miss affair. Its targets certainly seem dated. But it's hard not to warm to a film in which a character's cry of "I can't feel my leg" earns the reply "Ain't nothing but a thang." - Daily Telegraph

This is cheap rum. The Apocalypse Now pyrotechnics clearly cost a fortune. But the pleasures of Tropic Thunder are spread as thinly as Ben Stiller. He not only stars, he directs, co-writes, produces, and undoubtedly made the tea. - The Times

Patchy but Ben Stiller heaves mainstream Hollywood comedy out of its Will Ferrell-inspired rut. - Channel 4 Film

But its better moments of self-referential snark, such as an ace cameo from Tom Cruise as an obnoxious studio exec, have the feel of a superior end-of-term revue. - TimeOut
