Okay, so I've recently gotten back into reading the Silverwing Trilogy by Kenneth Oppel, a kick-a** Canadian author. A lot of the books he writes revolve around flying, both with aircraft and flying creatures. Silverwing is basicly about a young Silverwing bat named Shade who gets blown off course on his first ever migration to his colony's wintering place called Hibernaculum. He meets a banded Brightwing named Marina who's been expelled from her colony because of her band. They also meet a couple of bats from way down south in the jungle named Goth and Throbb who're have these huge wing-spans. Three feet from tip to tip. Anyway, they're what are called "Vampyrum Spectrum", a species of very large bats.
Unfortuneatly, they're aren't these adowable creatures, which everyone knows is called a Flying Fox.
No, a Vampyrum is this unpleasent bugger. They eat meat. Birds, lizard, bats. Whatever they can catch with their echo vision.
So as you can see, I really like bats. In my opinion, they're the ultimate lifeform (aside from myself).
