Chapter 4
It turned out Decker was right. Over the next few days, nothing had been found that had anything to do with the odd stone and the even odder symbol. But Felix and Julia were determined to find out what it meant. They had taken to spending sleepless nights in the main trailer, which housed a small library with several books on Stonehenge. They poured over these books, and Julia stared at the monitor of her laptop; she thought that a little web usage would be good. During one of these seemingly eternal nights of studying, Felix snapped a book shut in frustration. "Nothing," he said, slumping forward and putting his chin on the table. "Not a damn thing." Julia looked up from the screen, her eyes red and heavily-bagged from the strain of late-night web surfing. "Felix, we've been at this for four nights straight," she said, shutting down the computer. "If there was anything connecting the Henge or the Druids to that symbol, we probably would've found something by now. Can we go get some sleep?" Felix had been thinking that same thing. He ran a hand through his hair and nodded. "Yeah, you go get some sleep. I'm gonna keep at it for a bit longer." Julia stood and put a hand on his shoulder. "Don't sweat it, Felix. You'll find something eventually," she smiled at him tiredly but in a reassuring way. "G'night." "Night," Felix watched her leave and went back to his books, flicking back through slightly tanned pages. He thought about the henge and what it was thought to be used for over the years. The Druids believed it was some sort of portal, a door way to the spirit realm and that the door opened during the Summer Solstice when day and night are the same length and the henge's aura is at it's strongest. Felix ruled that out; there was no such thing as the a spirit realm. It was said Merlin used magic to transport the huge stone monoliths from Ireland. Maybe the stone was used by Merlin! But, of course, magic also didn't exsist and neither did Merlin. He thought about last idea, about Stonehenge being a huge calender. That seemed most likely and perhaps the stone was a game piece from for an ancient Druid game like checkers or something. Felix felt a pang of pity for the man who had misplaced his game piece thousands of years before, and end up having it fall into the possession of a sixteen year-old kid who didn't have a clue what it was. Felix yawned. He was tired and really needed some sleep. Almost unconsciously, he pulled a book toward him and rested his head on top, falling asleep. Inside his pocket, the symbol on the stone flared with a goldenrod light again.

Felix's enthusiasm about finding anything like the stone had dwindled away over night. Julia kept trying to reassure him that something would be found, but only got a shake of the head in return as Felix flicked away some dirt. Decker, on the other hand, looked throughly pleased at Felix dejected attitude and used every opportunity to shoot a triumphant smirk at Felix. Felix would feel his face grow hot with anger and would keep working. One time, Julia had to leap forward to keep Felix from jumping Decker. "Would you calm down?" she hissed, pulling him down. "How would it look if you jumped an old man? He was the who set this whole thing up. If you tackled him, you'll be gone faster then you can say 'Giza Pyramids'." Felix didn't say anything. He simply fumed as he went back to work. Bout half-way through that afternoon, Professor Griffon came over and tapped Felix on the shoulder. "Felix, could you follow me?" he asked, bending to speak. "There might be you wish to see." Felix exchanged a puzzled look with Julia, set aside their tools and followed Griffon. He led them to a pair of monoliths with the lintel still balanced on top of them. Jenny, Scott and Decker were already there, watching as a couple of sweaty-faced archaeologists blew away from dirt off a stone rectangle between the two pillars. Felix's heart leaped when he saw that the rectangle had more symbols carved into the surface. The horseshoe was there along with eight others.
