PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!
So, wow. Book 7, huh? Honestly, when I picked it up during the release party I could definately have been a bit more thrilled. I didn't really start to read it until the next day, I was so tired that night, and for the first third of it, I felt I was trudging through out of a sense of duty to Harry and JKR, bad author though I thought her to be.
Then in the middle I felt like the entire Wizarding World was enveloped in some sort of twilight zone remake of World War two. People hiding and running in the woods, others desperately trying not to be deprived of their rights by a new and evilly snowballing government, still others sneaking to tune into rebel radio stations as they crouch in their living rooms.
Very weird.
It's not until that last third or fourth of the book that I really felt it was coming into it's own, that JKR was surprising me with the quality, the action, the suspense. That the whole thing was coming together.
I was thrilled with the ending. Surprised as anyone, I think, to find that it was HAPPY. That people lived. I don't believe I'm alone in saying that I was regretfully resigned to the thought of Harry's death. And I'm not saying people don't die, and that it wasn't horrible, but, at the end, it was not as many as it could have been, and not quite as hopeless as it could have been either.
When I finished the book, I was giddy. Inordinately happy. I think I nearly scared one of my dormates half to death when I jumped past her at one in the morning, giggling madly and grinning like a maniac. I spent the next ten minutes dancing madly down the hallway, giggling to myself and yelling in exuberant whispers.
I love a happy ending.
SERIOUSLY, A DEFINITE SPOILER ALERT FOR DOWN BELOW!!!!
