Kat had come to the town market after fishing because her father said he was going to meet her there with joyous news.
But he never came.
She had asked every person who had come her way,
"Have you seen him? Have you seen my father?"
They had all turned up their noses in disgust or quickly walked away, trying to pretend they hadn't heard her, and all it did was make her more worried.
When she returned home, she ran through the house in panic.
He wasn't there.
Kat's heart began to beat so fast that it was pounding its way out of her chest, and suddenly an eerie feeling creeped over her entire body. Her feet dragged her out to the fields in back of the house, as if they knew he was there.
She ran through the fields to find an immobile being sprawled on the grass, covered in blood. The being was her father.
Her father - her innocent, wise, and righteous father, was dead. And she was the only one who knew or cared. As she slowly relieved herself of bending over, a light wind brushed through her auburn hair. The wind sent shivers down her spine, not shivers of sadness but of fear.
Where would she go? There was no one to go to.
"Where's a family when you need one?"Kat whispered through the fountain of tears cascading down her cheeks.
She turned once more to look at her father, holding back a flood of new tears.
"Goodbye, Daddy."
Kat began to walk through the fields, back towards the house. She wasn't going to stay here, and she would never come back.
She would never see her father or her home or her town again.
But they wouldn't care, they had never cared before.
Kat tenderly put her belongings into her leather bag and frowned at the thought of the heartless townspeople.
******** it if Kat never saw any of them again.They had never helped her or her father.
Suddenly her father's nurse, who had been tending to him in his old age, entered the house.
"How's he doing today, Ms. Kat?" the nurse asked with a smile.
In Kat's mind, this woman had just crossed the line. She laughed in a strange sort of way.
"How's he doing? How's....How is he doing?" she spat, "He's DEAD, damnit!"
And with that, Kat lunged at the nurse, knocking her to the ground. Kat had her hands around the woman's neck, tighter and tigther she squeezed. The woman tried to scream, and a group of townspeople passing by stopped outside at hearing the commotion.
Suddenly, the front door flew open. The nurse had kicked it open with her feet, and the group of people gathered saw the whole scene. Kat suddenly picked up the nurse by her neck, and shook her viciously.
And then, she stopped. The nurse was suddenly silent.
Kat dropped the woman to the floor, dead.
She stared out at the townspeople, who's looks told her one thing:
Run!
Kat grapped her leather bag and charged past the angry mob, ran through the town market, and past the welcoming sign.
She would never come back, and she was all alone.
