History: Dark was a being of the dark ages. He was born long, long ago in a time when civility was a dream, and bloodshed was the norm. Darkness was his friend and the light a constant reminder that people could see and attempt to kill him. He was a man ahead of his time however. He began as a boy, raised to know how to kill, how to hunt what he needed. He began as a true vampire, one of the first of his kind. He and his brother were brought up to be the pride of their family. Both of them seemed to be exceptionally gifted right from the start. Dark seemed to have an affinity for magic, and his brother for hand-to-hand combat. They were happy, if not a little blood-stained.
Their father was what they considered a monster, slaughtering anything he saw, the barbaric ancestor of true vampires. Their mother, they were told, was a being of unimaginable grace and power, and is said to be the being who gave the True Vampires their gifts. They called her Dhaelia, but unfortunately, the boys never met her, she was gone before they could speak. They hated their father, and swore to each other that they would surpass them and run away to make their own way of life. This took them a long time to accomplish. Despite his brutish nature, their father was very strong, and would not let them leave. He wanted them at home, to get food for him so he would not have to do it himself. However, he had to train them regardless. While he took a bigger liking to Dark's brother and trained him personally, Dark made his own way and began to practice magic. At first it was only small flashes of light, but as he grew, so did his powers. In no time at all he was throwing fire with ease.
His brother, meanwhile, became a juggernaut in the way of close combat. He could take a tree and punch it down with a single swing, his strength was unrivaled. Dark was jealous. His magic was considered silly and useless by his family, and thus he was shunned, while his brother was bathed in glory. Over time, he and his brother grew apart, but they always had a strange connection deep down. As they both came upon their first century of life, Dark decided it was time to leave. He left, but only after setting fire to his home, leaving his final words etched in flame on the ground before their house.
As the ages passed, he grew stronger, more powerful. He trained himself in the ways of hand-to-hand, with the help of those who would kill him for what he is. He continued to practice magic as well, his spells growing more powerful and diverse. He did not want to be taught by any, for fear of clouding his pure strength. He one day crossed paths with a Demon Smith who claimed he could forge weapons more powerful than any Dark had ever seen before. Dark agreed, disregarding his small short sword and tossing it away. The Smith made for him four daggers and a pitchfork made of a dark, cold metal. The Smith called them Hellish, and said that only the true wielder of the weapons would be unaffected by the cold demonic aura. Dark took his word for it, and took the weapons with thanks.
The Smith was true to his word, the weapons were incredible. His pitchfork would pierce through any armor, and the daggers flew straight and true when thrown, and never failed to cut their target down. He always knew where they where, and could always retrieve them. The one time someone tried to take his weapon, within seconds they pulled their hand back screaming from the cold burn upon their hand. Dark considered this a gift of god and kept moving.
Time moved further on. He was reaching ten millenia old. And he met his brother. It was an odd meeting, filled with mixed emotions. Neither brother could speak, and they reverted to the only method left. Combat. Within moments the two were duking it out, Dark's finesse combating his brother's sheer power, neither gaining any ground. It eventually came to one opening after many days of struggle. Dark saw it, and took it. He drove his pitchfork forward and stabbed cleanly through his brother's neck. His brother smiled, coughed once, said thank you, and soon died. Dark did not feel loss, but rather a sense of goodbye he had never had before. He knew it had been fated to end this way.
Now, he moves through the world, a silent shadow, a death-bringer to those who would harm him. But always he keeps in his heart, the memory of his brother's smiling face as he killed him.
