New extremely rough draft of story. -Contest
Creak. Just one step on the stairs and already the small red head was sending alarms through the eerie house. Another step on the staris, and the same cracking creak followed after. Suddenly, footsteps sounded behind her, and her body became paralyzed with fear. There was no moving. She wanted to scream, but no sounds came. A hand gripped around her neck, and she felt it close in until-
Her body shot up in bed, a cold sweat forming on her forehead. The covers had been wrapped around her body tightly, muscles aching from all of the the squirming she had done. This was ridiculous. In only five hours she was going to have to wake up for her mother's wedding! Frustrated, she kicked the massive covers off of her body and swung her legs around to the edge of the bed. She stood and sluggishly made her way to the window. Actually, she had never opened it before. They had moved in only two weeks ago, and so far she hadn't really felt like messing with it, but tonight was different. It was too hot! Choosing the third story bedroom was probably a bad idea.
Running a hand through her strawberry colore locks, she sighed and examined the windowcarefully with a blue-grey gaze. It even looked like a pain to open. She ignored that thought and gripped at the bottom, pulling upward almost instantly. Nothing budged. "Damn it," she hissed under her breath, more awake than she wanted to be by now. She readied herself again, taking in a deep breath, and yanked upwards. She heard it move a little, a scraping noise sounding with it. She smiled and ready herself to do it once more. This time, her effort made the window slam upwards, sending a chilling wind in with it. She shivered, her body cooled instantly in a eerie way. If she wasn't half asleep at that moment, she could have sworn on her life she heard voices on the wind, pleading with her to shut the window. Instead, she ignored the obvious insanity she was going through, and crawled back into bed.
"Sarah!" A female voiced boomed off of the red heads ear drums before she could even stir partially from her deep slumber. Soon after her eyes were bolted open and glaring upward at the figure hanging over her. Red locks that matched her own were hanging above her face as green eyes peered down at her. "Finally, child. You sleep like a rock!"
Propping herself up on her elbows, she let out a cat-like yawn and muttered, "Whatever."
The older woman replaced her slight frown with a bright grin and stood up before spinning around the room in a cheery way that really seemed to annoy the girl who had been awakened. "Why aren't you as cheery, dear? I thought you liked Nick."
Sarah rolled her eyes before getting out of the bed and stretching her arms high above her head. "I have no problems with that. I just have a problem with being awakened and having someone in my face! Know what I mean, mom?"
The elder woman giggled before stopping her spinning to face her daughter. "I get it, I get it. Just get ready. We'll go get our hair done together. You should call your friends and tell them that the bride's maids and the bride are getting their hair done together."
Sarah folded her arms over her chest and gave her a dull expression. "Uh-huh..."
Her mother brushed Sarah's wavy hair behind her ear and chuckled. "Alright dear."
Sarah watched the woman leave before dropping her arms to her sides and making her way to the door that led to her bathroom. First thing she wanted was a shower. The day before had been all work, and tired her out so much she had given up on gathering enough energy to bathe before sleep.
Before entering the bathroom, a large gust of wind lifted up the back of her shirt, reminding her that she had the window open. Sighing, she turned toward it and made her way over. Gripping onto the window, she heaved down, but it didn't budge. "What now," she hissed and tried once more. Again, nothing happened. She gave the wall a swift kick, sending pain throughout her body. She fell back onto the floor and held her foot in her hand, cuss words streaming from her mouth like crazy. "Damn window!" Even if she had time to go to her karate lessons, there was no way she would want to do it right now.
The doorbell rang signalling at least some of her guests were here. Sarah raced past her mom and her mother's fiance, Nick towards the door, but before she could reach it her new three-year-old sister was there, teddybear in hand. Her cuteness really annoyed Sarah for some reason.
As the door opened, she skid to a halt behind the blonde girl. Her eyes fell upon the sight of her friends and boyfriend. As usual, they were doing something stupid. Taylor was trying to ruffle Marissa's hair (the type to always try to keep her appearance perfect), and Kevin and Mark were hitting each other in the arm or gut, arguing about something. Probably sports. As the door opened, they halted and a smiled creeped onto Sarah's face. For the past few hours she had nothing but stress in her eyes! Finally, relaxation! Well, that was what she thought. As the group started to rush inside, her eyes happened to glance at the next sight coming. Her cousin, Alice. She was actually Sarah's boyfriend's ex.
Taking a deep breath, she calmed herself and turned to follow the restless group inside.
"So, Sar, how's it going?" Megan asked before leaning on the kitchen table.
Sarah shrugged and leaned back against the chair at the table. "So-so. Just a bit stressed."
Megan nodded and started to say something else when Alice entered the room. Sarah looked over at the direction the girl was glaring, and the same glare rushed over her expression.
The blonde across the room brushed her long locks behind her ear before scanning the room with calm sea-blue eyes. The eyes that seemed to judge everything and everyone. The eyes that Sarah herself found she hated the most about the girl. They were only a month apart in age, so they happened to be in the same grade at school. Thus, that is how the rivalry started. About the same time Junior High ended.
Alice smoothed out the bottom of her short pink dress and made her way to the frige, where Mark and Kevin were talking and making a sandwhich.
Sarah froze in her step. Her first instinct was to rush over and make a human border between Mark and Alice, but her body wouldn't let her. In a way, she wanted to test him, while the other half wanted to see just how well she could trust him. Even she had to admit, the girl was really pretty. One of those girls all the guys in school would want at anytime they could have her. Her personality really sucked though. However, Mark was dumped by her, and when Sarah and Mark got together, he still wasn't over her. The thought that after their two months of dating he was still in love with Alice made her sick to her stomach. She didn't need this added stress! Why couldn't she be like a normal girl and keep them in seperate rooms?!
Alice glanced over at her cousin, only meeting her glare for a brief second. She enjoyed seeing her cousin so riled up. To be honest, she had no real interest in Mark. He was too easy. He wanted her too much. It only made her laugh to toy with him. Rolling her eyes, she brushed past him, touching his arm with her own. She met his eyes, giving a small smile as he stopped what he was doing with Kevin to look at her. Then, her attention turned back to the refridgerator.
"Hey, Alice," Mark greeted, then turned back to Kevin to punch him in the arm. "Dude! I saw that game! You don't know s**t."
"I know I am right!" Kevin argued before punching him back.
Alice giggled and turned with a water in her hand. "What game are you guys talking about with such interest?"
Sarah felt as though she was fuming at the mouth. The way her cousin flirted made her want to rip her head off! Her grip on the table turned her knuckles white, and she could tell Megan wasn't happy either. Her twin brother, Kevin, was infatuated with Alice, and had been since the seventh grade. It had disgusted the both of them since the eight grade, when he confessed. That confession was probably what caused this heated war between family to begin.
"Football game last Saturday. I doubt you watched it, Alice," Mark answered before Kevin could begin rambling.
"Ow. That's harsh, Mark. You never know. Maybe I did happen to watch it. My boyfriend is into that sort of stupid stuff."
Insult number one. Expected from the girl.
"YEah. It can get pretty stupid," Kevin said before Mark could reply and added, "but it can be interesting too."
Alice turned her gaze to him, a small smirk playing on her rosy lips. "YEs. Interesting. If you think a bunch of morons running into each other is interesting, you can't be much smarter." She giggled and looked at the both of them as she said, "Of course, you noth play football, don't you? Is it 'fun'?"
Kevin didn't say anything, but it seemed Mark had more than enough for her to hear, but apparently he decided against it. It was clear just by glancing at his green eyes how ticked off he was at her. "I don't know, Al. I mean, we only run into people. Still, cheerleading is only showing off your underwear and yelling, isn't it? Hell, it's not even a sport anymore, according to the school. Pretty sad, isn't it?"
It was clear a heated arguement was about to begin. Sarah felt on edge, completely engulfed in the comments they were throwing back and forth quietly. If she had been sitting down, she would have been on the edge of it. Seeing them argue made her happy inside.
"Wow. Who would have known? Mark can actually think for himself. Seeing as how you wouldn't have those A's without your girlfriend over there, I figured you were just a dumbass about all things."
"You can't say much. If you didn't pay Martin, you wouldn't have very good grades either."
Alice put her hand on her hips, eyes glaring into his own. Mark did the same, folding his arms over his chest.
"Think you're smart?"
"Think you're smart?"
"Dumbass."
"Whore."
"Cheater."
"Two-timer."
"a**."
"b***h."
Alice went to slap him after he finished that word, but he avoided, nearly tripping over Kevin in the process. She swung at him, face red in anger, but Sarah grabbed her hand and shoved her back against the refirdgerator. "Enough! Calm down, Alice!" She barked and tried her best to hold her cousin back. The girl struggled against her cousin, and finally got free when Sarah's mother came into the room and pulled her away.
"What's happening now?"
