The Door to the Mind
My sacred space to post whatever I want. Rants, dreams, experiences and anything else that comes to mind.
My opinion is placed here.
ignorance (plural ignorances)
1. The condition of being uninformed or uneducated. lacking knowledge or information.

Okay, so I only just got on Gaia to see the mayhem the 2% Marketplace Tax is causing. People are going insane, screaming that Gaia is ruined, the tax is doomed to fail, and all sorts of cursing and flaming going on around Gaia. Now, this is not a rant about why the 2% sucks. Nope. Not in the least. This is a quick little comparison.

To those of you reading this, you probably know that I have all but sold my soul to Square Enix and their blissfully wonderful Final Fantasy series (and Kingdom Hearts), more namely their first MMO, Final Fantasy XI: Online. What can I say? It's all the love of Final Fantasy, all rolled up into a massive and engaging storyline and more side quests then you can shake a Chocobo at.

Anyway, one important feature of Final Fantasy XI is the User-run economy. Now, like all MMOs, there is the problem of inflation and Real Money Traders, but with the Game Masters deleting RMT accounts, all that leaves to combat is the inflation. How do you do that? With a tax placed on all items on the Auction House, whether sold or not. I'm not sure of the %age, but I don't really care, either.

That amount removes Gil from the economy, making the value of it rise. This is not a bad thing. It's a good thing. So why all the insanity when the same concept is applied to GaiaOnline?

People wanted another Gold Sink to help fight inflation. They got it. And what better way then to stick it in the Marketplace? People use the Marketplace every day. It's much more effective then leaving the Gold Sinks to the shops, although that's not to say the shops aren't helpful.

Geh...I just forgot where I was going with this...I'm just so fed up with the complaining. People automatically jump to conclusions about things that they fail to see the bigger picture here. The tax helps the economy.

Oh, and I read somewhere about someone complaining about loosing 7,000,000Gold if someone decides to sell an Angelic Halo...what kind of moron sells an Angelic Halo on the Marketplace?! The Exchange is the most ideal place to do it, since you can also get items for it, and not just pure.

I'm out. I don't care much for ranting any more today. stare
