So, on my recent literature bender, I've read several books in a row. Here's a list o' recommended reading from your friendly neighborhood bookworm~
feed (M. T. Anderson) - A very startling tale, due in part to it's bold crassness and abrupt story twists from a passive perspective instead of a direct one. Despite the narrator being the main character, he still plays second fiddle to the story of the future's degradation and the uniformity of society. I pick it up for laughs, seeing the line, "********, unit, ********!" but I was quite surprised.
Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card) - Imagine Harry Potter in the future, in space, and written roughly twenty years before Harry Potter ever began being inked. A boy, only six, is deemed as humanity's potential best tactical genius for all of Earth in an attempt to stop the Third Invasion of the "buggers." Touching on how it's honestly hard to be better and the isolation, responsibility, and hate that come with power, this one had me crying by the end. Yeah, MANLY MEN (tm) cry.
A Clockwork Orange (Anthony Burgess) - Quick itty off to the Korova for some moloko-plus, then a jaunt about to stir up the old ultra-violence and spill the red red krovvy on the way. Burgess imagines the 1990's way back in '62, where the world is no longer a nice place, the night ruled entirely by the "nadsat," teenagers who wish only to please themselves and no one else. Despite it's gruesome nature, it's still very philosophical and psychologically perplexing. Also, you'll notice many references you never knew you knew.
House of Leaves (Mark Z. Danielewski) - I haven't actually began this one, but it's next up on my "To Do" list of literature. Apparently a very trippy-dip horror abouse a house that's larger on the inside that it is on the outside, it's been getting constant praise in my little lit circle. I'll probably go back and edit this section once I actually get around to it.
Happy reading, campers~
