Marina's Journal
I don't have a particular theme here. I'll post when I'm bored or I find something interesting. Read it if you want to, I could care less. It's just a means of putting my words on a screen so that at least I can see them.
Chapter Five
Return to Your Roots

The light filtered through the leaves above, turning the air a light green color. A man in dark clothing with spiked, messy looking hair stood in the distance. Marina moved toward him, hoping this memory wouldn't slip out of her reach. "Midnight," Marina whispered, reaching out to tough the spectre from her past. She saw a brief smile flicker across his face, then the world went black again. "Marina, wake up time. We're here,"Lain murmured to the sleeping girl in his arms. His face said that he wan't happy about waking her up when she was obviously having a good dream, but the two of them would not fit throught the door at the same time. "Ughnn.... Why'd you wake me?" Marina moaned as Lain put her on her feet. She took a moment to stretch out, having gotten stiff after her rest. Lain nodded towards the door as it flew open. "That's why." "MARINA!!" Felicia cried happily as she caught the poor girl in a deathgrip-like hug that nearly made Marina pass back out. "Nice to... see you, too. It'd be.. so much better if..... I could... breathe!" Marina struggled to get out as she felt her lungs attempting to cave in on themselves. "Oh, sorry. It's so good to see you again, Marina. It's been ten years." Marina sighed, rubbing her rib cage. "I know. Everyone from the past just keeps popping up, don't they? Vakir, Lain, you......." Marina's voice tapered off. Where are you? Her face betrayed her thoughts to Lain and Felicia, who quickly ushered her inside. Felicia led her to the table and put food in front of Marina. "Eat. Now. You're skin and bones," Felicia chastized, poking Marina's arm. "Stop that!" Marina shot back. "Eat. I'll go find you something more.... concealing to wear, since it looks like you went through a blender," Felicia said, walking off towards the stairs. Marina quickly realized that she was going to be staying here for a long time, whether she liked it or not.
3 months later
So, you're going to run in the middle of the night without saying goodbye, huh, Marina? Lain had said last time he intercepted her trying to go. But this time she'd actually gone and said her goodbyes properly, knowing he'd just track her down and drag her back if she didn't. Felicia had been sad, Lain had actually started crying a little, though he'd never actually admit it, but Marina needed to go. Something was calling to her, pulling her towards her hometown. "I'm sorry, but I have to. I think I hear him," she'd said when she was leaving. Felicia threw a cell phone to her, which she caught without turning around thanks to the rigorous training she'd put herself through. "Can you say his name aloud yet?" Lain had asked, laying a hand on her shoulder. He knows you won't be able to handle yourself if you aren't strong enough to overcome your emotions, Marina. He's more intuitave than I thought. "Yes, Lain, I can. I think I can hear..... Midnight," she'd whispered, fighting back the tears his memory brought up. "I need to go back, back to here it all began. I'll call you if I meet with trouble. See you," she'd said as she pulled out of his grasp. Marina reflected on all of this as she stood at the base of "their tree," the tree where she, Midnight, and Lain had sat and talked at night. It was one of the few things that remained in the war ravaged land she now stood in. "Midnight, where are you?" Marina whispered into the wind. I'm here. I'll wait. I know you're nearby. I can feel you. Marina's calm air was quickly shattered by two voices she never wanted to hear and the cold feeling of steel through her collarbone: Vakir and his daemon girlfriend, Shih. Shih held the blade. "The bird that can't fly won't survive, Marina. You know better than to let your guard down," Vakir hissed into Marina's ear as he put a daemonic claw into her back. "Augh!" Marina cried as she felt blood start to trickle down her face from her mouth. Two-on-one with her pinned to a tree were not good odds.
One hour later
"Given up already?" Azazel laughed as Marina's limp body hit the ground. She'd spent the last hour doing everything in her power to survive their onslaught of attacks, but her strength was spent and she was unable to avoid their last batch of devastating attacks. She was seriously doubting her ability to survive this. Was it really Midnight I sensed? Or was this a trap? I can't tell anymore, and it won't matter soon. "Is this all you've got? Well, it's not fair to the lady to make her suffer, so I'll give her one little bit of information before I end her suffering," Vakir said haughtily, pulling Marinaup by the front of her shirt so that she was face-to-face with him. He leaned close to her ear. "I couldn't kill him, Marina. He's still out there. Alive," he murmured, enjoying the look of shock and loss that went across Marina's face as she realized that she would never be with him now. As Vakir prepared to drive a sword through Marina's heart, he heard Shih let out a small cry and hit the ground behind him. "Shih?! What's-! You!!" Vakir hissed, dropping Marina and running to the side of his fallen girlfriend. "You'll pay for this, especially if Shih dies!" Vakir threatened the dark figure that was coming up the hill with a gun made of white metal and dark blue roses on the sides in his hands. As the figure drew closer, Vakir scooped up Shih and flew off. Meanwhile, Marina had been struggling to stay conscious long enough to see the face of the person who had saved her. Are you alright, Marina? the dark figure asked, coming into Marina's view as the rest of the world faded around him. Marina gasped. "Midnight!" she whispered, then the world went black.
