Lilikka's Thoughts of the Moment
Nothing special, just thoughts that are on my mind.
Why don't I believe in God?
A girl PMed me today, asking me why I don't believe. So here are some of my reasons.

I saw my mother beaten and raped every day of her married life by my father. I refuse to believe there's a God that would allow that to happen to someone as good-hearted as my mother. She took the beatings and rapes so I wouldn't have to. That's a sacrifice most people would never even think of, let alone do for the sake of another person.

I also refuse to believe there's a God after my "God-fearing" husband beat and raped me. He went to church every Sunday and proclaimed that he was a "Man of God," whatever that's supposed to mean. And the worst of it all is that we were living with his mother who is quite active in their church. And she knew about the abuse, but turned a blind eye to it, so I wouldn't leave and take my daughter with me.

So no, I don't believe in God. I've yet to find a good reason to even believe in someone who would allow this much harm to come to innocents. And this is only from my personal experience. Let's not take into account all the other innocents who suffer all over the world.

However, I will never tell someone who believes in God that they shouldn't. Their belief is their own as mine is my own. If they choose to believe, then more power to them for standing up for their beliefs. And that's all I really have to say.

Oh, one more thing. It pisses me off when someone tries to convert me. I won't be converted by your words, but rather the experiences I have in my life.

If God didn't allow for these things to happen, then the world would be a perfect place. And according to the Bible, the world can't be a eutopia thanks to Adam and Eve. Anyways, God gave us free will. And it's the rapist's choice to rape whoemever the victim is, and God has no right to interfere.

I don't mean to start a religious argument with you, those hardly ever end on peaceful terms, although i've heard the excuse "God would never allow such horrible things to happen to people" too many times, and I don't believe it's a legitimate reason to not believe in him. I myself am not necessarily what you would call a Christian by the way, so i'm not trying to defend God, just trying to show how that excuse doesn't carry very much weight. Although I totally understand why you would feel that way, and I am very sorry for all the pain you've obviously been through. All the best to you.

I don't believe in Adam and Eve, either. After all, that would indicate that we're all products on incest. And that idea is disgusting, no matter how you try to spin it.

And while the world isn't a perfect place right now, who's to say it couldn't be? If the bad things started happening to bad people, perhaps it would wake them up enough to stop their ways. My gripe is that, sure God gave people free-will, but he's also supposed to be all-powerful. Why would he want people to suffer, free-will or not? If he loves all his creations, why would he allow it to happen? I can't even imagining letting my own child suffer through that, let alone the millions of people who have had to live through truly horrific events that other humans caused.

Maybe my "excuse" doesn't carry much weight, but talk of the Bible and God doesn't carry much weight with me. Not to sound like a b***h, but that's where I stand on the subject.

Unfortunately, God gave man (and woman) free will. God does not reach down with his almighty hand and strike dead anyone who does someone else harm - that's not the way the Christian God works, and that's not the way the deity of any religion works. To say that God, or any deity for that matter, does not exist because of misfortune, evil, pain and suffering in the world is naive and shows that you still believe that deities are there to "save you" from bad things happening in your life.

Everything that happens to us in our lives is a lesson - unfortunately the most profound lessons come the hardest.

Instead of looking to lay blame on God for not saving you from an awful situation, look at what you learned about yourself while going through the things you did.

We are not on this earth to live happy and carefree lives - we're here to learn about the human experience.

Who says we're put on earth to learn about the human experience? The meaning of life is different for every human. For me, life is about happiness and being carefree. If you want to live a depressing "oh, suffering is just part of the human experience" kind of life, then by all means, go for it. Just don't rain on my parade.

And whether I'm naive or not for my own beliefs, I would never come out and call someone else that, despite how I feel. I think Christians are naive for following too much an outdated storybook that no longer applies towards the present, but I wouldn't go out of my way to single one out and tell them. And for the record, I never stated that deities are here to "save us." Just that, free will or not, why would a parent allow their child to suffer when they have the power to stop it? When I found out my ex-husband was raping my daughter, I got her out of there as soon as I could. I didn't let her continue to suffer so she could learn a lesson about the "human experience." That's bull s**t to believe otherwise.

And all the abuse didn't teach me anything about myself than what I already knew. Instead, it taught me that most people are douche bags.

You sound like an awesome mother heart
I don't think religion is important at all, (even though I have gone back to being Christian after about a decade) I think good morals and values make a person, not their religious beliefs. My family owns 4 churches, and they are the most deceitful sinners I have ever seen. They hurt other people and then hide behind their Bible. Not all people are like this, but as a personal experience it turned me off to God. I too thought "Why would God let them do this in HIS house?". My opinion is like yours, I suppose. Anyways, nice thoughts. Ignorant people suck D:

Why, thank you :) I do agree that a person's morals and values make them a good or bad person, regardless of what religion they identify with. And, as I said, it's not that I have a problem with anyone's beliefs, only when they try to force me to see their ways.

I do not believe in god, but to my will if he is real he can burn for hell in hell's eternity. I am not saying i do believe in the devil either or hell or heaven. People can worship their fake god for all i care but my beliefs are as simple as this. I hate the human race, i hate myself for being human. The human race is what causes this world to be destroyed day by day. God if he is real why doesn't he destroy everything that causes pain and misery? He is nothing but a stupid make belief religion stupid idiots can worship so they think they are all that. Well i say, go to hell this whole world.
