Saturday, April 19:
I went with Michael yesterday to the Yugioh tournament/player get together at the mall. I wasn't even phased when the storms came rolling in, and we were rushing from the car to the mall itself through the big fat raindrops that were plummeting towards earth.
Upon arrival, seems the first thing we did with any player was trading transactions. For a couple of my "trading fodder" cards (cards I will NEVER use in my entire existence of playing) I obtained some Gladiator Beast support and monster cards (Murmillo, Hoplomus, and a few Manicas; I know that sounds Greek to many of you and, ironically, it is!). It's going to be a while before I finish this sucker. The one fusion that I need (besides Gaiodiaz, which I'm getting in the mail) is a whopping expensive one (for kicks, if you want, go onto the Ebay site and type in "Gladiator Beast Heraklinos". I think you'll have a heart attack seeing how much it is).
Anyway, after that we involved ourselves in some dueling of other players. I was glad to see there were a total of three girls (including me) that day. For some reason, girls aren't very common when playing this game. Usually, when they are actually involved, they have awesome decks and are just as competitive as the male counterparts. At least, that's what I've noticed.
My winning-losing streak ratio for the entire day wasn't that bad. Almost equal, actually. My beast deck seemed to actually win more than my Harpie deck, but that's because I kept pulling horrible hands (Elegant Egotist and Harpie Lady Sisters in the same hand, WITHOUT any regular Harpie Ladies just plain SUCK).
I got to go against Michael's Venom deck again. Holy heck, that is an extremely challenging to deal with. Not only do I know he has a couple copies of Venom Swamp (which suck down my monster's attack points, destroying them soon after) in his deck, but he's got the ultimate naga card that I can't pin point with magic or trap cards, and I basically can't kill! I have to rely on my Harpie deck when dealing with that Venom deck, because at least I have two or three field spells of my own (to counteract with his swamps).
I went up against an older man (judging age? I'd say about 40) who was dealing with numerous decks. Zombies, machines, normal effect monsters, even a Pharaoh (Yami's) deck! Impressive to look through. What deck did he use against me?
Picture this, why don't you? I'm using a Harpie deck, which specializes in wind and gives boosts to ALL wind types. He, jokingly, but on purpose, opted to use his OWN Harpie deck.
You can imagine how tricky this was. Not only was I almost boosting his own monsters (in a way, half of my monsters only boosted my side of the field, so he was a little disappointed), but he had the best of the best cards (Hunter Owls, Bird of Divinity, Harpie Pet Dragon). My cards, as he later looked through my own deck, surprised him. Compared to his, he should have one. He even commented, "it's almost like the starter deck you can buy, just messed around a little".
Michael originally made and tweaked this deck so it's a no frill experience that is streamline, not wasting time getting the Harpie Lady Sisters out on the field. I also tend to flood the field once in a while, getting multiple boosts from various monsters. It's a scream once I get it going!
Well, that's about it. Another fantastic experience! I can't wait to duel Michael again with his Venom deck.
heart Peace out, ya'll! heart
