|Yes...here we go again xD We just enjoy this too much... I'm sure you know where to look if you've been reading thus far. We're just going back and forth for this story. It's just so sad! We have to find out what happens! Will Rai die? Or will he miraculously pull through? *shrug* Who knows? Angsty, per usual.|

Rai wasn't even sure he was still awake when Ren started speaking. The words drifted in and out of his mind, but he couldn't seem to comprehend them. It was like trying to concentrate on a boring book, or concentrate on something when you had something else on your mind. Not that Rai had much on his mind, but it was starting to shut down anyway. He was starting to drift again, even though that unbarable pain was still so feirce.
The blonde let out a shakey sigh, his eyes closing that little ways they had opened, shutting out the light that was giving him such a headache. His body felt so cold, as if even the thickest blanket couldn't warm him. It was a scary kind of cold, like one gets when they're sick with the flu or some other common illness. He wanted nothing more than to just let go. Let his fingers slip from the ledge of the cliff he teetered on and allow the dark abyss to swallow him completely. There was no longer anything he could do; he would let himself lie in God's hands.
But then Ren spoke so softly, close to his ear. He could almost feel the breath against his skin. He had felt the tears on his cheeks, ones that didn't belong to him. Those simple words seemed to grab his slipping fingers and hold him there at the edge of that cliff. That tender voice, trembling ever-so-slightly. Fear? Maybe that was it. Did he know that Rai wanted to give up? Give in to the awaiting peace? But there was no way for him to respond, no way for him to fight against Ren or his death. His mind was slipping back to that dark, waiting silence.
At that point, Rai wasn't sure what was happening. The pain faded again and his body felt light. But it wasn't that floating sensation. No, it was something completely different. Something, he felt, he had experienced before. The first time he had met Ren while traveling, before he could remember who he really was. He could hear things; giggles, whispered voices. Maybe it was a dream? Or a vision? No... a memory. He remembered this.
"Ren?"
"Hmm?" Rai lay against the other male, twisting bits of green hair around his fingers, a rather thoughtful look on his usually cheerful face. They were wrapped together in bed, as they often were, the world around them dark as everyone else was safe and sleeping in their beds elsewhere.
"If I ever died...would you cry for me?" Ren seemed to freeze a moment before looking down at Rai, rather confused.
"What kind of a question is that?" The blonde shrugged a bit, his eyes locked on that tuft of hair as if it were the most interesting thing in the world.
"Just answer it..."
"Of course I would. But you're not going to die..."
"I know. I was just asking." A smile broke across the blonde's face as he looked up into the eyes of his lover, poking out his tongue. "I'll never die. I promise." Letting go of the hair, he snuggled up against the other male. "I'll never leave you alone, so you don't have to worry. It takes a lot to get rid of me."
"Can we change the subject?" Rai giggled.
"Ok, ok... Hey, Ren?"
"What?" Reaching up, he poked the green-haired male's nose and then grabbed it between his index and middle finger nuckles, squeezing it lightly.
"Got your nose." Ren rolled his eyes, pulling the hand gently away from his face.
"It's hard to believe you're supposed to be the older one..."
"Hey, I'm allowed..."
That was right... He had promised, hadn't he? But it was so hard to keep himself awake. He was so tired. Tired of everything. Rai just wanted to sleep, let someone else decide his fate for a change. How many times had he faught to stay alive? How many times had he defied everything and pulled through his injuries? He didn't even know why he had done it.
Oh, but yes he did. Now he did. Every time he was hurt, Ren was there. Every time it seemed as though everything would be for nothing, Ren was there. Always. And when it seemed Ren would give in to his own injuries, Rai had been there for him as well. Always. If he died now, what good would it have done to live through all of that? He couldn't give that up now. It didn't matter that they were still young. As long as they were together, they could get through anything, right?
"I'll never die... I promise"
He couldn't give up now. No matter how useless he might be or no matter how useless the effort, he could still try. Rai had never been one to give up for no reason. If he died, at least he would have tried to live. He had to try. For his friends. For Ren. For them.
"For us..."
"Ren..." Rai murmured softly. It took so much just to get his lips to move. His body had gone numb to the pain, but he was still awake. No matter how weak his body was, he was going to pull through this. He had to. Try as he might, the blonde couldn't get his eyes to open, or his body to move, so he just relaxed. Maybe that would help. His body had given up to the pain, but it wasn't giving up on life just yet.
"Ren..." He forced again before he moved his head, ever-so-slightly toward the other male. With a ragged breath, his eyes slowly slid open just enough to allow him a sight of the green-haired male. A small smile tugged at his lips, half open in search of air to fill his lungs as much as it could. "Got your nose..."
