Life's Obstacles
Just some things that are happening in my life...
My life with my Doggies <3
[[ The first family dog --which we got before i was even born -- was a golden cocker spaniel, Beatrix, named after Beatrix Potter. When Beatrix past away in the summer of '03, we decided that we would look into getting another puppy. That fall, we found an older couple who bred scotties. My mom was always a big fan, and she read us the Angus books. Our little baby was a black scotty that we named Ribby. She was smart and very enthusiastic in playing fetch, but she was also stubborn and independant. Once while we were on vacation at a nice lake, I noticed that Ribby loved the water, since she liked to have me throw her tennis ball into the water, but her legs were so short. She couldn't swim too well. So I grabbed her a little yellow life jacket from the canoe and fastened it on her. She knew that with it, it was easier to chase her ball into the lake. It was so cute, especially when we took her picture floating around the sandbar in the red canoe. Sadly, she got really sick. And because she was strong and didn't show that she was sick, we had no idea. She had lyme disease, cancer, kidney failure -- and it seemed that she'd been sick for at least a year! In 2007, right as we were leaving to return to the lake, I had a hard time leaving Ribby at the vets. My parents went back to our hometown, a 2 hr drive, and they knew that putting her to sleep was the best thing. I was so upset, refusing to do anything else. But my sister told me that mom and dad would get another dog. I asked my mom if that was true. But she said that it would be too much work. She said that dogs are difficult to take care of, especially with chewing and potty training. It was very doubtful that we would get another puppy.

But one summer day, my 14th birthday to be exact, my mom said she'd take me to dunkin' donuts for breakfast. We got in the car -- but I noticed we weren't going in the right direction... I asked her, and my mom said she had to pick something up. When we got there, I heard a lot of yapping and barking. But even then, I was clueless. "What kind of dogs does she have?" I asked. At that time, I thought it was a lady from my mom's work.

"She has miniature schnauzers," she replied.

I was excited to see her doggies. It didn't even strike as odd that she had at least four of the same breed of dog. All of them ran up and jumped at my legs, wanted me to pat them. They were so cute, with their hardly-visible nubs wagging. The woman greeted us and told the dogs to heel. The she turned and walked off somewhere. Then she said something:

"You ordered the one with the dark face, right?"

My face lit up. I looked at my mom and started exclaiming. "We're getting a dog?!? Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" My heart was leaping with joy as I took the little puppy from the breeder's arms. She was such a little cutie. She looked like a little lamb. We named her Fern. And even though she wreaks havoc when we're gone, she's a lovable little thing. She hates it when I leave for school, whimpering and yelping and holding onto me with her arms. And now she's going to turn one year this Tuesday, the 17th of June. I'm giving her a little celebration, but it'll be realy big once we get to my birthday, the one-year anniversary of when we first took our little salt-and-pepper baby.
