I just went to the Langford Tractor pull and HOLY SHIP.
So my nana got in the house, washed her face and told us to get in the car, we were going to the tractor pull. i was watching the Fantastic Four and i groaned reluctlently but got in anyway. We knew a priest who's deck overlooked the starting point of the pull. it goes like this, the tractor was on a long strip of packed dirt. along with a really long tractor thingy that looked like an extended snail
D_______-[ (like that sorta) witch the tractor hooked onto. the "snail" had weights on it and was a weight itself. the point was to pull the weight the fastest and longest distance. the crowds were ENORMUS. bleachers were on both sides of the track. the people were almost all "hicks" i saw cowboy hats and boots. and there was lots of beer, let me tell you, "hicks" and beer are not good together. rolleyes on the left side of the track was a parking lot. full to the brim, so far as you could see, with trailers and cars and trucks. Now to the tractors pulling. you would hear the engeins firing up, the BOOM a hideous black cloud of desal fuel came shooting outta the tractors exaust pipe(located on the hood of the tractor) and a mind numbing roar accomined it. the first time i saw it i was on the verge of tears. the noise combined with the black smoke that at night, blocked out the lights, making it pitch black for seconds was to much. i got used to it but still feared the noise and the smoke. One tractor, the winner of the event, started on fire at the end. OTHER FACTS
the tractors are steared by the front tirers. when the back tires were putting on the amount of force it was needed to pull this weight, the front tirers would go up in the air, thus making it unable to stear the proper way. therefore the drivers relied on the brakes in the back tirers to stear the tractors.
people used to jump onto the weight(it looked much different back then im sure) to add more weight when the tractor was pulling it, this, as you would guess, was extremly dangerous.
i loved this event, but hated it too. is that what we do for fun? put peoples lives in danger for fun? push tractors that way? pollute the air with all that black smoke? have that many people with children with that much beer?
its hard to think about, but well worth the time, very fun in all >.<
