Kiree

The Tales of a Superhuman

by Lee lover forever

Hello! I'm going to attempt making my first superhero...or heroine, rather. Seeing The Dark Knight, Heroes, and Hancock inspired me to give this a try. It made me think, 'What if I created a heroine that had superhuman abilities yet, at the same time, was as vulnerable as an everyday person?' And so I got the idea to make this story. I really hope you like it. So, without further hesitation, here's chapter one! Enjoy! Disclaimer: I don't own Heroes or any other hero related series (Batman, Superman, Justice League, etc)

P.S. Special thanks to Steve, my hair stylist buddy! He gave me a bunch of awesome tips and ideas for this story and without them it wouldn't be half as good as it is. Thank you Steve!

Prologue: Thoughts

'What am I? What are these traits I posses? What are they meant to be? ...What am I meant to be?'

Chapter One: Human Life

The bells ending biology rang, ending another high school day. Kiree sighed in relief and got her books together. Then she began to walk to her locker, preparing to go home. Kiree pushed a stray strand of her blond hair with electric blue highlights behind her ear, put on her jean jacket, slung her book bag over her shoulders, slammed her locker she opened seconds ago shut, and walked down the hallway to go home.

Outside it was sunny and very hot. Kiree debated on taking her jacket off, but decided against it. So she continued on, jacket and all.

"Hey! Kiree!"

Kiree turned around and groaned. Behind her stood Jacklene and her two sidekicks Alexes and Brittany; the three prettiest, bossiest, most popular, and bitchiest girls in school.

"What do you want? Make it quick. Oh, by the way it's pronounced Kairi, not Keeree."

Brittany and Alexes smirked while Jacklene gave Kiree what she thought was an intimidating glare. As a result, Kiree rolled her eyes.

"Then why's it spelled K-I-R-E-E?" Jacklene asked snobbily. "What the hell are your parents, stupid?"

Kiree shrugged. "Maybe you should ask them why they spelled it that way, not me. And I'd appreciate it if you'd watch your language. It isn't impressing anyone, hasn't been actually."

Jacklene laughed. "You're such and uppity little b***h." Her two cronies giggled.

"Watch it, slut." Kiree smiled. "I think all of that makeup is beginning to go to your pretty little head. And," she continued, her blue and gray eyes looking down at Jacklene's painted pink nails then back up at her face, "you said the other day you like the way nail polish smells. Smelling that stuff kills brain cells, so I guess that gives you a bit of an excuse as to why you act the way you do."

Alexes gasped while Brittany stood there in horror, mouth gaping open.

"Come on Jacklene!" Alexes said, cheering her fellow snob on. "Don't take that from her!"

"Y-yeah!" Brittany chimed in. "You're better than her!"

"Well well," Jacklene said with a grin, "at least I have friends. And what happened to, 'watch your language'?"

Kiree snorted. "I decided not to waste my time being polite to you. And what friends? You just use them to make you look good." Kiree giggled. "I give you credit for the idea, but it's selfish and not to mention very self centered." She twirled a lock of her blond blue hair around her finger as if she was talking to Jacklene about something as casual as directions to the nearest Dairy Queen. "I may be blond like you, but at least I have brains and treat others with respect."

"So?" Jacklene was obviously shaken by her words but was determined not to show it. "Who cares? You don't see me walking around like an idiot with blue highlights in my hair. And at least I have a bust."

Kiree burst out laughing, clutching her sides. After a few minutes she finally caught her breath. "Ok, ok." She raised her arms in mock surrender. "You got me." She tried to seem serious for a few seconds, then started laughing again. "Seriously? Was that supposed to be an insult? At least guys look at my eyes when they talk to me." She tossed her hair behind her and said ever so casually, "And everybody knows that you got a boob job for your Sweet Sixteen which, if I must say, turned you pretty sour and not so sweet." Kiree smirked victoriously; she knew this battle had long been won. Still, she felt like making Jacklene suffer. She deserved it. So knowing that, Kiree finished by saying, "Sorry hon, but you don't grow breasts overnight. Natural ones don't do that anyway which, at least mine are."

Jacklene's light green eyes widened with anger as she balled her hands into tight fists. "You b***h!" She snarled through clenched teeth.

What happened next caught Kiree off guard. Jacklene swung a punch at her with her right fist, slugging Kiree across her left cheek.

"Ow..." Kiree stumbled backwards, placing her left hand on her injured cheek.

Brittany and Alexes looked at her, then at Jacklene, eyes wide.

"Oh s**t..." Jacklene's jaw nearly dropped to the ground. "Let's go!"

Within less than a few seconds, her, Brittany, and Alexes were out of sight.

"Cowards..." Kiree muttered. Nobody had been there to witness the fight, so she didn't know why they ran off so suddenly.

A sudden pain shot across the left side of her lip. Kiree poked her tongue out and licked it...tasting blood. Then, she removed her hand from her cheek and looked down at it. It was bloody. She pulled out a napkin from her pocket that she hadn't used at lunch, then wiped the blood off of her hand and threw it away in a nearby trash can.

'I'll take care of my face when I get home,' she thought inwardly to herself and continued her walk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I'm home mom!" Kiree called the instant she made her way through the door.

"Kiree!" her mom replied loudly, somewhere seemingly far away in a sing song voice. From Kiree's guess, she was upstairs. "I'll be down in a minute! I bought you some new clothes!"

Kiree rolled her eyes. Her mom alwaysliked to do that...buy her clothes that didn't even suit her style. Not only that, but she was overprotective and had OCD. Everything in the house was freakishly neat; if one thing was out of its original order her mom would throw a fit.

As for being overprotective, Kiree's mom had been like that for a while; ever since she divorced her husband she had been that way.

"Kiree darling! Welcome home!" her mother greeted her as she walked down the stairs to the upstairs section of the hosue. Cuddles was in her arms, in a mini tuxedo.

Cuddles was the family dog; a snow white Pomeranian with black, beady eyes. According to her mother, he had been part of the family before Kiree was even born.

"Hi Mom," Kiree replied dully. She smiled slightly while secretely thinking that her mother was too cheerful for her own good.

Then, she groaned as her eyes trailed down to the tuxedo wearing Cuddles.

"You dressed him up again?"

Her mom blinked. "Yes. What's wrong with that? It makes Cuddles look shoo adowable! Yesh it does! Yesh it dooes!" she cooed, nuzzling the dog and as a result, he licked her on the cheek.

Kiree sighed. "I know it might not seem like it, but you're torturing him."

Her mom stifled a laugh. "Sure, dear. Does this face look tortured?" She indicated to Cuddles, who began licking her face again. "Ahaha! See? He isn't upset."

"Whatever." Kiree gave up, deciding she'd lost this argument. "Anyway, I'm going to clean my face up. I..." she paused and tried to think of a valid excuse for her face. "Fell on the way home and busted my lip and got my cheek bloody. I'm going to put band aids on it or something."

"Odd..." her mom said, a slightly shocked expression on her face. "You look fine to me. Maybe you imagined it. You know, hit your head too hard."

"Wha-" Kiree cut herself off as she caught a glimpse of her face in the mirror. There she was, staring back at herself. Only her face was flawless! No blood, busted lip, bruised cheek. Nothing. "Huh. I guess you're right." She spoke emotionlessly, pretending not to care, like it didn't matter. "Well, I'm going to my room. I have projects in biology, history, and science that are all due next week. Not to mention the mountain of homework. See ya." She walked upstairs, book bag still on.

"I'll wake you up nice and early tomorrow!" her mom cheerfully called up to her.

Kiree groaned loudly in response.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Hours later, Kiree lied wide awake in her bed. She stared up at the ceiling of her room, thinking of what happened. Kiree'd easily finished all of her projects and homework. It all had only taken her a few minutes. That left her mind to think about the fight. She saw Jacklene slug her across the face, felt the pain that tore across her lip and cheek, saw the blood. Why had it all disappeared?

'Come to think of it, the pain went away after a few seconds too.' She thought as she turned over to lie down on her stomach, having just realized it. 'What the heck is going on?'

The chilly night air blew through the open window and into the room, making it cold. With a lazy sigh, Kiree got out of her bed and walked over to the window to close it. Then she could go back to attempting to fall asleep.

Then it hit her.

Kiree looked down from her high floor on her apartment and grinned. "That's it," she whispered.

Carefully, she propped herself up on the windowsill. She stood so her back was facing her room. As soon as she gained her balance she looked down at the ground and gulped. It seemed so far away...but she could do it. This would be the ultimate test.

And by knowing that, Kiree closed her eyes, leaned back, and fell.

So there you have it, chapter one! Again, thanks to Steve, my mom, friends (special thanks to Urq-kun and Ocey for giving me feedback), and family. They all gave me support and ideas for this story! Next Chapter: Realization
