so let's say this girl is walking through a... a huge maze right? she's got a deadline soon approaching, but everything keeps changing on her, and it's really messing her up. she tries marking the ways she has already tried, but that gets all screwed up, and when she turns around on pathways she's taken she finds they've turned into dead ends. then let's imagine that when she turns back around from one of these dead ends, she finds two doors guarded by these odd looking creatures that can either only tell the truth, or only lie. here's their dialogue:
girl: it keeps changing! what am i supposed to do?
creature 1: well the only way out of here is to try one of these doors.
creature 2: one of them leads to the castle at the center of the Labyrinth and the other one leads to...
1: buh buh buh bum
2: certain death.
girl: which one is which?
1: uhh we can't tell you
girl: why not?
2: we don't know
1: but they do (points upward)
girl: oh then i'll ask them
(upward) 1: uh no, you can't ask us, you can only ask one of us
(upward) 2: it's in the rules and i should warn you that one of us always tells the truth and one of us always lies. it's a rule too: he always lies
(upward) 1: i do not i tell the truth!
(upward) 2: oh what a lie!
(downward) 1: *snickers*
both at different times: *laughter* he's the liar!
girl walking up to 2: alright, answer yes or no, would he tell me that this door leads to the casle?
2: uhhh yes?
girl: then the other door leads to the castle and this one leads to certain death.
*oohs*
2: how do you know? he could be telling the truth.
girl: but then you wouldn't be. so if he told me the answer was yes, i'd know the answer was no
2: but i could be telling the truth!
girl: but then he would be lying. so if you told me the answer was yes, i know the answer would still be no.
2: wait a minute, is that right?
1: i don't know, i never understood it
*laughter*
girl: no its right, i figured it out. i could never do it before, i think i'm getting smarter. it's a piece of cake!
....and she falls into this big shaft of hands
did she guess right? it makes sense, but how could landing in a big pit thing make her right? this was out of sheer boredom btw, it's from my favorite movie lol
