CHEATED

Soph
I can't believe what I'm seeing.
Lance.
And Amy, with her lips crushed against his.
For a second, I could swear he was struggling.
But then I doubted it.
Why would he?
Like most other guys, he was probably just trying to get his hands in her bra.
I felt shattered. Broken. Torn around the edges.
Like a chapter of the novel titled "Sophia" had been torn from the binding, replaced by a new story. One dank and dark.
One without Lance.
Because, let's face it, without Lance, my life is dank and dark.
I did the first thing to come to mind in this moment of shock.
I turned and walked away.
I didn't even care that Lance was yelling for me to stop.
His footsteps echoed down the hall, so I ran. When he started catching up, I ran faster. When he grabbed my arm, I slapped his knuckles. That made him let go, and I ran some more.
I ran the whole mile to my house.
At home, I sat in bed with my head in my hands. I thought of ways I could be wrong. Maybe she tripped. Maybe he was struggling. Maybe she forced it on him. I stopped. Maybe he forced it on her.
I let myself sink into bed. There I stayed. My glass house was shattered.
I guess I shouldn't have thrown a stone.
~~~
I got on the bus. I sat in my usual seat, and turned myself so I could stare out the window. I stared at the trees brilliant amber and gold leaves. Yet they reminded me of a time from my childhood, when Lance and I first met. I looked at the sky, still a cool grayish blue. But it still made me think of him. He was my sky. I guess not anymore though.
Amy owns his sky now.
Amy got on the bus, and sat beside me.
She saw my face, and seemed to understand.
"I'm sorry Soph. I guess Lance is just too shallow for a girl like you." She said.
I was slightly angered by what she said, but simply ignored it.
"Lance is just more into huge chests and blonde hair. Oh well." Is she trying to piss me off? "I even heard that he told his football buddies you were lez for me."
That's when I lost it. "I heard him that day. Lance didn't start that, Lars did! Lance stood up for me! He isn't shallow. He's more than just some hot jock, Amy. He has a heart. He's not concerned about breasts or hair. He's concerned for girls personalities and that's why I love him!"
The bus was silent. I glance up, and notice Lance standing over us, jaw practically on the floor.
"Soph, why didn't you say something yesterday?" He said, sounding as dumbfounded as the look on his face.
I looked at my lap. My fists clenched. My eyebrows furled. And very slowly, I said "Because you cheated me."
They say more than what is spoken,
Promises always get broken.
