It's not for the squimish though. It tells the most horrifing story I have ever seen/heard in my entire life. And I love it to death.
It's a story of three kids (Early 20's, yes I count those in the late 20's as KIDS.) and the mum of one of the kids. The Characters' names don't really matter in this movie (you almost never hear them used, which I will get to in a moment), but their names are Harry Goldfarb (played by Jared Leto), Sara Goldfarb (Harry's mum) (played by Ellen Burnstyn), Marrion Silver (Jennifer Connelly), and Tyrone C. Love (Marlon Wayans). Harry and Tyrone are best friends, Marrion is there friend aslo and is Harry's girlfriend. They all do drugs and are addicts and they have it bad. They then decide to start becoming drug dealers. For a while things work out they are making a lot of money, fast. but soon everything goes wrong and they all fall to pieces.
Sara is completely oblivious and is addicted to her TV. Very addicted, she never leaves the set. One day she gets a scam call telling her she could be on TV if she send a letter to the adress given. Soon she becomes obsessive about her weight and goes on dangerous diet pills, going insane, and not realizing it.
This might have been the saddest film I have ever seen. But by far the best made. Truely life changing.
The cinematography was brillient. The film is so hard to explain when typing. You should see it for yourself.
But be warned, even in the rated R version (You can get this version or the un rated one) there are some extremely disturbing scenes. Haunting even. Not for those weak of heart, so make sure your ready for it, like read the book to know what your getting into first. I'm not even close to kidding it can really break people down.

Yes it is based off of a book. Best part? The screen play was written by the author! So it shouldn't be too different. You can buy the screenplay and/or book online.
