Chavs. Better known in Scotland as NEDs (non educated delinquents), or Jocks in America...
Anyway... It has been quite a few years indeed since I've let the petty and insolent words of any such ignorant soul infuriate me. As a matter of fact, these days such remarks only give me cause to smile wryly, sigh and shake my head...
The main reason I have started on this eloquent rant of doom is because I had one such encounter earlier this night... Earlier in the evening it had started snowing again, and being one for walks out in the snow at night, I decided to go for a nice stroll. After lurking down some back streets and around the graveyard for a while, I thought I'd lengthen my walk a little bit more by heading back home via the rugby fields and the swings. As it had stopped snowing/hailing for a while, I decided I'd like to have a swing on the swings as it relaxes me and lets my mind/imagination wander... Anyway, after I'd been swinging for maybe five mins or so, a chav and his female walked past on the pavement nearby. As they walked past, the chav openly stared at me as I swung on the swing. I silently challenged him by staring back. After a moment or so, the chav broke eye contact, looked towards the ground (as they always seem to do anyway), and uttered "Freak." quite audiably, and continued on his way.
Now, I'm quite sure that the remark was meant to hurt my feelings or something, but all it did was highlight the chav's lack of intelligence/imagination for anything better to say. In an odd way I also pity such individuals. For a start, their total lack of empathy means that they can't possibly understand why anyone would do something that's a bit odd or unusual. Secondly, the whole buisness of looking away and flinging a rather lame insult my way only goes to show that such individuals are deeply insecure. As soon as anyone so much as stands their ground against their ridiculous bravado, they sheepishly back off and leave you alone. Now, I don't know whether that is the case with other chav types around the world, but here in Wales chavs seem to be all bark and no bite.
I really don't understand how people can exist that way... And I really don't understand how how many people do exist that way... Going through life not even willing to try out anything even slightly alien to what they think or do.
Well... That's my mini rant finished. xp
