House Rules and Guidelines
Keeping the peace in a session can be challenging without preset rules. This applies to characters as well as their players. To make sure everyone understands what is expected of them when they show up for a session, the following rules are provided to all players. Please read them, and understand them. Anyone who violates the rules will be subject to consequences, the most severe being removal from the game area permanently.
(italicized rules do not apply to the beta testing. Pay attention to the bolded rules for the beta testing)
Common Courtesies
1. If you cannot make it to a session, please notify me via phone { (24 cool -***-**** or (24 cool -***-**** } at least 12 hours in advance.
2. If you cannot make it to a session, understand that the group will not be held up because of you. You will be left behind, and once you return you must catch up to the group. It is requested that you show up for the next session about an hour in advance for this to occur. We will not take time out of everyone else’s session to allow you to catch up.
3. If you are sick, please do not come to a session.
4. Clothing is to be mandatory, and is to be appropriate. Anyone who cannot adhere to this rule will be asked to leave the group.*
5. Cosmetic products and perfumes must be kept to a minimum.
Supplies and Record Keeping
1. You are responsible for your own paperwork. If you lose your character sheets, you will lose control of your character. You must then create a new character, and devise a way for this character to logically meet the PCs and join their group.
2. Any documents (excluding character sheets) must be typed.
3. You are required to supply your own writing tools, dice, counters, and any other supplies you will need during the session. If you forgot to bring something, please try to rectify the situation before we begin playing. There will be a small selection of supplies you can rent from the GM for the session (for a small fee). Any of the GM’s supplies that go missing or are broke during the session are to be replaced by the person who damaged/lost the item within two sessions.
4. You must keep track of any and all information applicable to your character during the session. If you forget to add a number to an attack, a save, or a roll, it is impossible to do so after your turn is over. Other players may remind you to do these things, as may the GM.
5. Any modifications to a player’s character sheet must be done during a session.
6. Each session that a character levels, the player will be asked to leave their character sheets with the GM until next session. This allows the GM to update their records. Any sheets lost during this time will not be held against the player.
Game Etiquette
1. There is no be no food or drink on the game table at any time. This will prevent any spills that might damage game mats, books, paperwork, or other items on the table.
2. If you are going to dispute a GM decision, please do so politely, and with respect for all present at the session. The same applies to any actions made by another player.
3. Dice rolled that land on the floor, or hit anything on the table must be re-rolled, no matter the original outcome of the roll. Also, if the GM has any reason to doubt the integrity of a player’s roll, they have a few options:
• They can ask the player to re-roll
• They can ask another player to re-roll for the original player
• They can re-roll for the player
If the GM asks for any of the above solutions, you must comply, or dispute the decision respectfully.
4. Each player gets thirty seconds to being their actions on their turn. Anyone exceeding this time limit will be considered to be stalling, and their turn will be skipped.
5. No throwing of objects at other players, or the GM during the session.
Game Play
Characters
1. We will not be following the encumbrance or starvation rules stated in the Player’s Handbook.**
2. Upon a HP roll of one, one re-roll is granted.
3. No one can multi class into barbarian without a plausible reason
4. Upon your character’s death , you have three options. First, you may end your journey, and leave the campaign. Second, you may rely on the other players to resurrect you. Third, you may create a new character.***
5. Experience earned in a dungeon will be awarded at the end of the dungeon. Other experience earned will be awarded at the end of the session. There will be time at the end of the session to level characters.
6. Any opportunities for bonus experience must be turned in at the beginning of the session to be counted.
7. Any characters (or players, for that matter) that distract others from the game play, cause problems that are not acceptable, or are otherwise unruly will be asked to leave.
Actions
1. The deliberate murder of an innocent child is punished by the God of Paladins, who will smite the PC that killed the child. The character will take 21d20+5 damage, unless the player can convince the GM that the killing was justified.
2. Entering an area automatically calls for a spot check from every player involved. If you do not roll a spot check during your turn as your first action, you will be automatically taking a ten.
3. One player requested re-roll is allowed per session per player, within reason.
4. Each player is granted one major save per campaign, which can be used to resurrect their character, re-roll a stat, re-level a character, or take back a major action. You must clear the save with the GM before it takes effect.
5. The GM may award fate dice when they feel that a player has role-played their character exceptionally well, a character suffers during game play due to their alignment, exhibited exceptional abilities, or otherwise enhanced the session (as the GM sees fit). See the Fate Dice handout, which it available in the player resources folder, for more information.
*This rule does not apply to any character in the game, only to the players.
**Starvation may become an issue, depending on the circumstances. You will be notified in advance when this will be becoming an issue, and will be given a small supply of rations.
***There may be special circumstances where a deceased character may continue the campaign. See the GM for more details when the situation arises.
