A Note On Roleplaying (INCOMPLETE)
Recently someone asked me if I could tell them how roleplaying works. So I decided to make it easy and just write my thoughts out here. I'm not an expert at it or anything, but since I've been doing it for 10+ years (I know, sad, really), I have picked up a thing or two about the general expectations. whee Right. Here it is.
Creating a Character
The first step to joining a roleplay is to, of course, have a character. If you are not playing a canon character, that is. This process really depends on how serious/long-term the RP is and how much you are willing to put into it. Not all RPs require extremely realistic and detailed characters, but I find having a real, breathing person is always way more fun.
You basically have to know everything your character would know, or discover it along the way. But it's important to have a good foundation. Usually I start with their history. Once I have that down, I go through it and try to get a feel for how they might have been effected by the people and events in their past. Then from that, write their personality traits. Then I get all the smaller details down like age, birthday (if required), and that sort of thing. I usually choose the name last. There are lots of different ways to choose a name. It can be one you've heard that you like, or one that you find that you like. There are many places to find them. I usually use baby naming sites or generators. Here are a few:

Something else I like to do is to choose a name that has a meaning that suits them. This isn't really for any reason, I just find it fun. ^^ Next I choose a picture/drawing/etc for their appearance. You can find a lot of images on:

So. Basically. Now you have your character, what do you do with them?
