I used to live for Gaia events. I had a blast posting in the event forums (I had more free time). I loved reading the manga updates. I'll never forget Christmas 04 when I got updated page by page on Gambino's search for his son. Until then, I hated the guy but I felt so sorry for him and so happy when Gino appeared at the end. I sooo rallied on Gambino's side when the wicked VonHelson sisters appeared and kidnapped Gino. </3

Free items used to be so few and far between. I couldn't wait for Halloween to roll around so I could match my old Jack items. XD; Yeah, I mixed and matched full sets of Jack items. I rocked. I couldn't wait for xmas so I could add to my red collection. O: And the Gaiaversary was my favorite event of all because I usually got more items that had pink on them. Ohhh there were so too few pink items to work with.

I love how Gaia creates mmany events for us each year and tries to keep them fresh. I don't pretend to know all of the details that go into it, but I appreciate that they put in the best efforts that they can. I love sponsored quests. I especially love when the reward is an awesome item that I can use in a lot of outfits. I also don't mind when the item doesn't work with many outfits because, hey, it was free.

On a related note, the starter items are also nifty. I know they're not "free," but they're quality items that are easy to earn. Need a new item? Surf a couple pages and you've earned enough gold to buy a starter item.

It's also awesome that we have so many chances to earn items for free. The daily chance gives out items daily. Duh. You have a chance at earning items for solving jigsaw puzzles. The aquarium overseer gives out gold and items. I've also heard that you can find items while playing the booty grab game.

I recently found a post of mine from around October 2005 where I said that I had seventy-five items, and that it sounded like a lot. Pssh, that number is paltry nowadays. I'd been on this site for almost a year and a half and I only had 75 items. That includes all of the holiday event items that I'd gotten for free. Heck, those event items made up half my wardrobe. XD The rest of my wardrobe was made up of the monthly collectibles I saved up for. I couldn't spare any gold for store items. I didn't even own peasants gloves. ; .; Yeah, i was poor. XD;
This is not me complaining about how hard the good ol' days used to be yadda yadda yadda. I'm glad that Gaia has gone through these changes and that there are so many items now available to us all. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't still be here. Okay, so maybe I'd still use the site, I just wouldn't collect the free items. ...Who's crazy enough not to collect free items? x -x;

That was all rambling side story. I'm quite surprised that anyone would still be reading. XD I'm surprised that anyone's reading this in the first place. Anyhoo~ from a tekteker's perspective, I love free items because that means that other people are bound to own these items.
It really sucks when you click on someone's envi link to make an outfit, and they don't own any items that match. Or when they own a decent amount of matching items, but the only items you can add onto the inventory cost 20k or more. This is where free items come in. The longer that person is on the site, the more likely it is that they'll collect free items that match their existing items.
Gold is really hard to work with. I loved easter... 06? 07? when we got those little chickies. :3 I especially loved that the chickies could sit at the feet. I'm pretty sure we didn't have egyptian anklets yet. Even if we did, I'd still rather not tack on a 4k item to a tektek. That eats up a lot of the budget. I loved that time because it was pretty much guaranteed that any person you came across would have those little chickies to balance the gold/yellow at the feet. Heck, I love the surfer girl flip flops even more since they're goldish and only 5g.
Sayoran's goggles guaranteed that the person would have a brown head item. Brown head items are not easy to come by!
The pink nordstrom hat guaranteed that anyone on Gaia around that time would finally have a pink hat item to match the other random pink items that owned.

The new dynasty warriors staff guarantees that any environment now should have an item that adds gold to the feet. Most people use red anyway, so it's a bonus. And hopefully the staff will stay nice and cheap so that there's an item that can be added instead of adding a 4k egyptian anklet. On a side note, I don't mind the remake at all. Yes, it looks very close to the staff from the gift of the gods. No, they're not the same. I'm picky. The gold is a different shade and so is the red. a couple of the poses also differ so we now have more options. Hold the MC if you want the stick to be held one way and hold the Quest Item if you want to hold the stick another way. We get copy cat items all the time, this is just another one of them.
