Thoughts of a Deathscythe

Stormy Nights and Breaking Hearts

*Notice:* Some of you may have seen that my last journal was the beginnging of a songfic... THIS however, is not a new installment to that story. This is something completely different concerning Spirit and the OC II Justin Law II and I share, Jordon Albarn. [II Jordon Albarn II]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hiss of a downpour was heard outside, the gutters overflowed with water and gurgled as the heavy storm only had seemed to become worse with every passing second. Thunder roared across the earth as lightning ripped and stretched out across the sky, illuminating everything for a brief moment before the pitch black of night consumed the city’s inhabitance again. There wasn’t any question about it, no one would get any sleep tonight.
However Spirit Albarn had already guessed that before the storm had even began brewing. The man had tried huddling down in his blankets of his rather empty bed. In fact, and too most of his few friends’ surprise he had been it’s only occupant for quite some time. Four years to be exact. He groaned as he looked tiredly over at the clock, the red digital numbers displaying that it was 4:03 a.m. His Hellish day was only four hours in and hadn’t even really technically started yet and it was already a disaster. Not that he expected any less. The man pressed his hands against his face trying to suppress a sob as he now laid on his back. Only when he heard his door creak open and the illumination from the night light in the hall flood his room did he move his hands away and look up. There stood his nine year-old son, Jordon in the door, who was adorned in his pajamas and rubbing his eyes.
“Whats wrong Jordo….? Is the thunder and lightning scaring you?” Spirit sat up, and rubbed his eyes which had heavy bags of a struggled night of no sleep under them. And as if almost on cue, the rumble of a thunder head started up again.
Quietly the boy stepped over to his Papa, not even flinching when the lightning had went off. When it did, Spirit had noted the boy’s face looked nearly as strained as he own probably appeared, tears even streaming down his reddened cheeks. His blue eyes watery but empty, at a loss for any emotion. His heart felt like it might crack, “Jordon… what’s wrong buddy?”
Crawling in the king-size bed beside his father, he curled up tightly next to him before burying his face in the pillow that Spirit was leaning his elbow on. He silently had begun to sob again, more tears spilling from his tightly squeezed eyes. “Is Dad ever coming back?” The child mumbled into the pillow.
Spirit was taken back but his question. Jordon must had been up all night as well… dwelling over the same fact Spirit had. That Tomorrow… or rather today, was the fourth year since Justin Law had betrayed Shibusen and left their family. His first reaction was to say yes to his son… But honestly he didn’t know. He didn’t know if Justin would ever be allowed back. Or if he was, if he would still be alive by the time he could somehow come back. “S—Someday…. Yes, A—At least I hope so-“
“Y—You hope so… Or you know so Papa…? Is Dad coming back or not!?” This time young Jordon sounded rather demanding, he had even lifted his head from the pillow, but had also clung to his father desperately. “W—What did we do!? Why did he leave!? WHY! WHY PAPA?”
“I.. Hope so Jordon….. I—I don’t know… But we can pray righ—“
“I’m not praying anymore…. Papa we’ve prayed for four years! He’s not coming back! HE’S NOT COMING BACK PAPA!” Jordon plopped down into the pillow once more a new batch of tears coming forth as he sobbed terribly.
It ripped Spirit apart to see his son like this, it ripped him apart to think that maybe his son was right, “God wil-”
“THERE IS NO GOD! Don’t you see! He would have let Dad come home by now if there was! A—All we have is that retarded Death God!” He screamed into the pillow.
Now it was Spirit’s turn to become demanding. He wasn’t about to lose Jordon to the same person Justin had went to. “Jordon!” He narrowed his eyes at the boy, taking on the appearance of a serious father, “I don’t want you EVER to say that AGAIN! You hear me?! There is a God… and You know better than to treat Shinigami-sama with such disrespect! You’ll see your dad again, We’ll be a family once more. I will make that my promise to you! But… BUT you must never lose faith in your God… Got that!”
At first Jordon’s hands only clenched into fists, but they carefully eased and he soon found himself hugging his Papa tightly, sobbing into his bare chest. “I—I’m sorry Papa… I… I just miss him…”
Spirit’s eyes softened once more, his tears of frustration turning back into tears of depression. “I know, Jordon… I do too…” The older man sunk back down under her blankets and held the young shaking boy close to him in an attempt to shelter him from the storm, but most importantly the nightmare their family had been thrown so unwillingly into. Both soon found themselves drifting off into sleep, still sobbing occasionally and tears spilling from their eyes. Their hearts were broken and though it seemed by this point nothing could head them, they still held onto hope. Hope; The only thing that still kept them alive. If they lost that, they lost their reason. “I do too…”
