I'm kinda sad that it is... It was so fun.
So this weekend, I went to the LA Elite competition. Really fun. We had workshops at this one, so they were like little 1 hour/45 minute dance classes where you learned a dance and got down into groups and performed it for each other. I was kinda sad in the beginning, because my two friends who are my age got to go up into the senior group because the other two people in their hip hop dance were seniors I guess, but I got over that. It was really fun. I wasn't especially looking forward to it, but then I got into it and it was great. Pretty normal I suppose, the lyrical was my favorite workshop of the day on saturday. Then came tap, but the teacher was going reeally slowly teaching us. Not like he was teaching us slowly, but his tempo was slowly. But when I had him again today (he was the only teacher I had for the same thing both days), it was actually a good thing. The first jazz was kinda weird, because the guy was like, "okay, this is gonna have a little hip-hop mixed in." And of course, I have never taken a hip-hop class before. Like ever. And he was also like, "I want you to do what you feel like doing. I'll give you the steps, and you can change them to what you feel like." and then the lyrical teacher said, "Remember that you're supposed to do what the teacher tells you to. Do it exactly what they say." so that was kinda odd. There was this other guy in the juniors (I was in juniors if i haven't said already), and I called him snappy boy, because he would always have his fingers close together, like they were in a fist, but they never really got that far and he would snap every so often. When we had the audition, he would do it more often then I remember it, and it made me think he was trying to snap to get their attention to him. I wish I could snap ;~; Either way, he was still pretty good.
On the night of the competition, it was kinda sad, because my studio had dances 42 and 44, and I was in 44. I of course couldn't go into the girls dressing room, so someone had to go and get me to go backstage. But as me and the girl were going backstage, I saw that one of the girls from 42 was throwing up back stage. That made me really sad and kinda nervouse. I felt so sorry for her.. Right after our number, I heard their song going on, and I ran around to go see it, and the girl who was throwing up wasn't on stage... Poor girl.. So then I had my duo. We did really good. We got a platnum, AND we got second best high score out of juniors I think. Second high score out of something. That was the best we'd gotten.. And for my group one (44) we got a gold. I get to keep that trophy. cool
Then we had the audition (I mentioned it above with snappy boy stuff). It was kinda easy. It was a hip-hop thing, into a jazz turn thing, into a ballet jump thing. I guess I did pretty good in that.
Finally there was the final awards. They had high score stuff, and audition scholarship stuff. I guess the scholarship people were supposed to get up on stage and dance it, but they wanted us to get out before the superbowl started, so they cut that. I was sitting there, just watching all the awards, and eventually they got to Junior scholarships. And I was kinda nervous, hoping that they would call my name. They had called like three of the names out of the nine, and I was pretty sure I wasn't gonna get it, so I was like, Okay, I'm not gonna get it, so i'll just sit back and watch. So they called the fourth person. And then wouldn't you know it... They called my name. =D I got to go up on stage, and be part of the six people who got scholarships. So now I can go back next year for free. The other three people got unlimited classes at a studio in LA. I was one of the only two people from my studio that got the scholarship, and the other person was a senior. I was soo happy. So now I'm just like, "Well gosh, maybe I don't suck to bad at dancing."
So now I'm off to bed to get the best sleep of the weekend I suppose. I didn't get to sleep in all weekend though crying damn...
