Gorn's Riddle - Part the Second
We tell tales of a man,
But he is not our man.
Our man is a different man,
One man of many.
The brilliant man opposed our man,
As he opposed the other.
His name was shared by many,
But he surpassed his fellow men.
Our man did what was needed,
Or what he thought was.
He used an air-gun,
But his was no toy.
Few were sad to see him go;
He died soon after men met him.
But he came back,
Though more in the past,
And our man was now famous,
Though not for good reason.

Answer - Professor James Moriarty
Guesses from 16251 - 16358

Discuss, RRers: the first riddle required solving a code using the alphabet, and the second was based on a number pad of a touch-tone phone. Somehow, this is a clue. And, so far, oscilloscope is the closest guess.
Oscilloscope hasn't been guessed yet.
