One very calm and shadowy morning, a Proud and Elegant Owl flew through the lightening skies. Her hunt for the food that would keep her in the skies was not going well and the strength slowly drained from her. With a pain filled hoot she landed on the branches of a withered Silver Palpel tree. The dew strewn grass below waving in the soft, cold breeze as the morning passed in fog and gloom. Soon however, the Owl heard a soft slithering noise far below. Peering curiously into the grass she saw as the softly swaying stalkes were neatly parted by a sleek serpentine form. Hooting in hunger, she considered swooping down and eating the Snake. For his body was swollen with the form of a fresh kill. Instead, she pondered and planned.
“Noble and Sly Serpent, I bid you skies blessings.” She hooted to the Green Snake. Surprised, he twisted his coils. Carefully shifting until he could peer up at her from the ground.
“And Earths warm blessings to you most Wise and Elegant one!” He called up to her, each word drawn out in subtle hisses. “How might I be of service?” The Snake asked, for a hunter of the Skies never called greetings to an Earth child. Often pitying them for not being able to dance in the sky.
“My dear Serpent, I must admit that hunting has been scarce and must ask, would you kindly tell this old one where she might find mice to eat?” The Owl said, coming ever closed as she sidled down the tree. Only to hear him better of course.
Weaving nervously, the Serpent recalled the Hatchling tails of Owls that ate snakes whole before shaking his head and hissing up at her. “Hunting has been scarce for all My Lady. However, mice might be found aplenty amongst the human stock.”
