To: Fellow beings

Reference: .Could 'Goldilocks' planet be just right for life?
A planet fit for life? Another canvas upon which the flame of life can burn an endless image of wonder?
The implications for such a discovery are monumental to the people who wonder at what amazing things creep, crawl even walk, out in the vastness of space.... To think, but a mere 120 million miles away could be beings so like us, we might think we landed back home. Or perhaps so different, so wildly curious to us that the ones lucky enough to see them are struck dumb by the sight before them? Could they understand us? Would the cosmic trend of simultaneous invention have proved cosmic indeed? Would we find a race that knew no war or no peace? Would we find a utopia or an ailing world in need of help?
Would we even find intelligent life?
What would we do if we, human kind, found ourselves in free reign over an non-sentient world?
I shudder to think this-- my fingers tremble even now-- but what would happen? I fear this wonder will be lost in the scramble for any mineral wealth... and any high power forbid we take fancy to the pelts of our future equals....
What would we do? I asked myself, dreading the conclusion i knew i would reach, shortly after reading the article. We would somehow destroy and pervert the raw splendor of that new world.
We would find all things of value, survival wise then monetary. We would hunt the wild-life and kill what took our fancy. If we did find a sentient race, would we make peace?
Most likely not, but i can hope. I can dream those weary travelers will make peace and be kind.
I may dream, but i shall not hope.
