Rina is the quiet and calm girl in the trio. Mystery circles all around her, and when there's something wrong about her, she prefers not to talk about it. Rina is wise beyond her years and is very popular. She has fans of both genders, giving her love letters since she is cool and looks pretty enough to become a model. Sadly, she rejects her admirers because she claims to be not interested in love. Rina does have a caring side to her as well, but she doesn't show it often. She is motherly to her friends, and Rina is not someone you want to mess with.Oddly, instead of wanting to be a model, Rina wants to be a comedian. She's watched a lot of comedy on her TV, and tries to speak in Osaka dialect.
About her past
Before Rina met Lucia and co., she lived in the North Atlantic Ocean, where her kingdom was. Her kingdom was destroyed by Gaito-sama and his evil minions, and Rina discussed this with Noel. Noel, the indigo princess of the Arctic Ocean, said that her kingdom was destroyed too, and they must find the rest of the mermaid princesses. But soon, the Arctic Ocean was being attacked. Rina and Noel tried to flee, but they met up with Gaito and Yuuri. Yuuri aimed at Rina when attacking, but Noel wanted Rina to be safe, so she sacrificed herself so that Rina won't get captured. She yelled to Rina to get away before she was captured too. Rina was dismayed, but she managed to get away from Gaito. Since then, Rina has been seeking revenge... REVENGE!Rina's past still affects her greatly, for she felt that she was helpless because she wasn't able to help her best friend. When Caren showed up in the middle of the series, she immediately had an argument with Lucia and the group. She was especially furious with Rina, saying that it was all Rina's fault that Noel was captured and that Rina had betrayed her. Caren stated that Rina should have gone back to rescue Noel instead of going away.Rina took it to the heart. Feeling hurt from the cold words from Caren, she pondered around and thought to herself that maybe Caren was right. But when the Black Beauty Sisters made their debut, they captured Caren and tried to trick Rina into joining them. Their plan failed when Aqua Regina gave the mermaids a powerup. Thus Caren was saved, and she laid off Rina a little bit.
Lina or Rina?
The official way to spell Rina's name is "Rina." But either way, it's the same because r's are pronounced as l's in Japanese. Probably why people think her name is spelled "Lina" is because of the fansubs of Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, who spelled her name that way. More people use "Lina" instead, but I'm just telling you, they're both the same.
Lina's transformation!!!
Rina transforms into Green Pearl Voice whenever there's trouble. Either she, Hanon, or Lucia start the Live Start, and starts to go into idol mode. With her pearl necklace, she yells "Green Pearl Voice!" and transforms into her mermaid form... except she has legs this time! She also gets this cool microphone, and to defeat her enemies, she sings. The songs that are heard are mostly her most powerful group songs, but sometimes she uses Star Jewel. Eventually she'll send the enemies spinning until they disappear with "Love Shower Pitch!" In the manga, her attack is "Cool Shine Pitch!"
Rina first starts with a less fancy uniform that's green. However, when the Black Beauty Sisters attacked, Aqua Regina gave the girls a power-up. Rina received a bracelet where with Lucia and Hanon, she could get into her second costume (as seen below).
