The sun had set quite a while ago and candles lit the way, when enchantress Shin Mei finally retrieved to her chamber. Her weary eyes saw no changer in the ascetic furniture or stacked tomes, yet something on the back of her mind suspected intrusion. She just layed her staff to rest, when a voice spoke from a dark corner.
”You shouldn't stay up so late. It's dull to wait so long”
Shin Mei spun around to face the sudden female voice. Her candle didn't light the person entirely, but she knew whose pale face was lit by a red glow emitting from the eyes. A wavy stream of black fog flowed by those eyes and Shin Mei felt her body shiver.
”From the look on your face, I'd guess you're being brave. But your eyes are filled with fear. Do I scare you?” The woman talked with a calm, bittersweet tone and stepped a little forward.
”Stay where you are!” Shin Mei shouted.
”Don't bother yelling. Every door in this corridor has a seal of silence on it. I didn't bother cursing your room, if that's what you're thinking. I'll have to search for you the next time anyway”
”What next time?” Shin Mei refused to calm down at the presence of this woman.
”My dear sister, we never know if there might be an event to interest us both”
”We are not sisters anymore. You gave your heart and soul to evil and will pay the consequences of your falling”
”My falling? Oh, you poor, naive little girl! What you call evil and corrupt is the truth I have searched for so long! I pity the grey brotherhood in their libraries, stumbling blindly among scrolls and tomes never seeing the dark light of reality. Knowledge is not easy to obtain, because they beg and plea a peace of parchment to teach them, when all they'd have to do is stand up and take what they want!”
Shin Mei dashed towards her staff and the woman rushed after her. They clashed paths and stumbled around the room. Black smoke swirled around the woman and Shin Mei became entangled in it.
”Oh, you tried to be clever. You knew me well enough before, but my fate is not the reason we need to talk” The woman held Shin Mei's arms and she fought back. The smoke came from nowhere flowed to whatever direction it wanted. Shin Mei tried her best to avoid breathing it in. The woman smirked behind her grey hair, which had fallen over her face and red glowing eyes. Shin Mei pushed her further away.
”Then speak your mind and leave!” Shin Mei said.
”I only have questions, so you have to speak up and explain yourself”
”I have nothing to explain to you, Mia Nova”
”That's not my name anymore! And of course you you have. Why would a woman dedicated to peace and pacifism take such an interest in a soldier? You know that young man has blood on his hands, yet you never hesitate to hold it”
”You came here only to question my choise of friends? This seems strange” Shin Mei and the woman circeled each other like cats.
”I know his pretty face isn't your motive to befriend him. I have seen him often and felt his presence very clearly. You know it just as well as I do. There is something more to him than what meets the eye”
”That applies to everyone”
”Not like this!” her red eyes burned with excitement. ”His subordinates are easy to read, their secrets aren't so special. But he is different! His aura attracts these pathetic, fearfull people. He fills them them with new hope no matter where or how he affects them. And every sign of fortunetelling is absent when I try to read his path. I know you must have tried to scry his fate more than once with your coin game and noticed the same void of clues”
Shin Mei noticed a chance and dashed to grab her staff. ”You've spoken your mind, now leave!” she pointed the staff at the woman.
”Very well. Until next time” The woman spoke quick words of magic and vanished with a flash of light rainbow colored light. Shin Mei was breathing heavily and felt a sudden need to chuckle.
”You take such pride in your foul powers, but still rely on the same old spells as before”
