Kid Icarus Uprising: All pain, no gain?
Recently, after searching shop after shop, I managed to get myself a copy of the new Kid Icarus 3DS game for around £32. Now, you may not know, but that is a lot to pay for a video game if you come from a poor household like mine. Despite that, having waited for this title for a long time, I shelled out the money and later started up the game with my highest hopes in mind.
Big mistake.

Some time before the game came out I watched a series of mini animations on Nintendo Video. I was greeted with bad humor, average voice acting and the most annoying "Goddess of Light" I could have imagined. It's a joke, right? I asked the universe. It's just a silly cartoon, not the real game.
Unfortunately, I was wrong, and the the majority of the chapters are filled with the same poorly written dialogue.

As far as the story goes, there isn't one. None to speak of, anyway. This was the biggest disappointment for me overall, who was expecting tales of ancient myth, great adventure, Pit's origin maybe(and although I have yet to complete the game, I can bet anything there will be no such developments). Dark Pit, for me, is the most exciting thing in the game so far. In an ideal world, Dark Pit will join forces with Pit and they will hug and be buddies. But of course, this is too much to ask for.

Now for something everyone has been bugging on about: The controls. With my odd determination to master the controls of any new game I get, this isn't too bad for me and is actually quite fun once you get the hang of it, despite the unavoidable aches that follow a game session. But quite frankly, the controls for this game turned out to be an awkward disaster.

However, there is good to say about this game!
Visually speaking, Uprising no doubt takes the cake- it's beautiful and colourful designs are amazing to look at. The biggest eye candy for me are the game's hundreds of weapons, which can be bought, traded in for hearts or fused together to create all new shiny ones. On top of this, the music for each level and menu is great.
The hard truth is that Kid Icarus Uprising is a battle-based game, focusing on high scores, weapons and the like, and was never meant to have much depth to it at all. It's not to say that I haven't enjoyed the game, I just feel slightly annoyed that I bothered to spend such a lot for a game that was ultimately not for me.
My love of Pit from SSBB blinded my path, it seems.

I think of it as practice for my eventual purchase of Black Rock Shooter: The Game; also a fighter, but with a badass near-apocalyptic urban setting and awesome sounding story. (And male characters!!!! Sorry, I just can't get over that.)

In the meantime, let's hope that Dark Pit and Pit decide to make ou... friends, make friends.
