After Tonight: Episode 05
Last time on After Tonight...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TAB “I’d like to personally thank everyone for coming this evening.” The small woman on stage smiled so big Klaus was sure he could see all of her teeth. “SiN has met many hurdles over it’s three year lifespan and with your help tonight is the biggest SiN sponsored event yet.”
TAB Klaus couldn’t stand the woman. He also didn’t care for being guilted into ‘donating’ his hard earned money to fix a problem that really wasn’t a problem.
TAB “But before we end this evening we must take time to remember the young lady we recently lost, Miss Texas Candi Holiday.” A giant picture of Texas appeared on the white wall behind the woman. A soft applause echoed through the dining hall.
TAB “This young woman helped SiN raise $74.13, the most-until tonight-we’ve ever raised during one event. For that she has our thanks and the dedication of our first offices located in the Bahamas.” The image of Texas changed to a lavish compound on a white sand beach. A big white sign plastered to the side of one of the buildings read Holiday Resort with and Offices written beneath it on the picture in red ink.
TAB The tenants didn’t react. Klaus wondered if they were all as stupid as he suspected.
TAB “To honor the life of this amazing girl,” the image on the wall flashed back to Texas, “we would like to offer her a moment of silence.”
TAB The room hushed, but something nagged at Klaus. There was an almost silent ticking in his ear. He looked around the room and noticed that the donations table was emptied of every box, toy, and envelope except one. The sound came from the final wrapped donation.
TAB “What are you doing, Klaus?” Ash sounded hurt as if Klaus had offended him by not obeying the arbitrary rule that one must bow their head during a moment of silence.
TAB “Shhhh.” Klaus pointed to the donation table.
TAB “What’s that sound?” Miss Chantal spoke a little too loudly.
TAB The small woman at the podium on the stage grinned. “I’m afraid I must be off. Tonight is the start of a new life for me… And the end of all of yours. I sincerely hope everyone has had a blast.”
TAB “Get down!” Everyone in the room obeyed the command. Or at least Klaus thought everyone had.

————————

TAB The room erupted in fire, but as fast as it had came it subsided. The man stood, uneasy on his feet. The world was a dizzying mess of color and light.
TAB Two steps towards sound and he slipped. His body collapsed and he felt his head strike something hard. The room vanished.

————————

TAB The world came back in waves. Hot waves and sirens. He tried to move, but he was too weak.
TAB “She didn’t make it.” A man stood over the body of a woman he should have recognized. “What should I do?”
TAB “Take her last. We need to help the ones that survived first.”
TAB He watched them leave her. It bothered him, but he didn’t know why. The only thought in his head was a single word he didn’t understand. Diva.
TAB He reached for his shirt, hoping to relieve the pressure on his chest, but he found only skin. Distant calls tried to reach him, but he lost them. He closed his eyes as he tried his hardest not to cough.

————————

TAB Doctors surrounded him and several other people wrapped in blankets. They were in a bright room. It hurt his eyes.
TAB “Who are you?”
TAB He stood silent for a moment unsure of what the doctor wanted to know.
TAB “What’s your name?”
TAB “I…I…” He searched his mind for an answer but couldn’t find one. “I don’t remember.”

Memories are fragile things, so easily twisted and broken. Will the tenants survive the dark fog of unknowing? Or will losing sight of the past lead to a better future for each of them?

Who will survive After Tonight?

What was I forgetting? Oh right! My purse! I was just outside, so I just quickly walked back in to grab it. I didn't hear the commotion, or the "get down!" so next thing I know, a giant piece of alabaster wall is hitting me in my noggin! I lose consciousness before i realize what's happened.

I don't remember where or when I woke up, but the same man from before that made me use this new identity was standing next to me. I don't remember much of anything about last night, or much of anything really, but I did remember his face for some odd reason. I could feel that I was bandaged all around my head, and I had all these weird tubey things stuck in me.

"I thought you'd never wake up; the doctors were thinking you'd slip into a coma for a couple of months." He smiles, before sitting next to me. He had another folder in his hands, making me sit up. Ouch! Oh, my boobs hurt... I mean ribs. *giggle*

"What is it now?" I ask, holding out my hand to take the folder. An old woman was in the pictures, and she looked very ancient.

"That is your next mission. Well, not so much "mission" but 'assignment'." He grins. "You'll pose as this old woman, saying she is your grandmother, and that she'll be replacing you in the apartments. I've already spoken with the doctors, and they are willing to help us get you out of here."

It's a crazy plan! But, I think I was okay with it, so I nodded.

~'*'~

Two weeks later, when I was able to walk, they got me out of there. When the residents came to visit, they said I had gone. I was no longer on this earth. Their condolences passed, but I didn't care; they were all so odd anyways! Seriously, what was up with these people? Even with the dirt I dug up on them, I still thought they were all nut jobs!

But, whatever I guess. I would no longer be Sicilia Burke, but Austentia Brittle. The amount of skin damage I had taken on was just adding to the now old person prosthetic that was stuck on me. After the contacts and wig, I was unrecognizable. And the outfit was scary enough, not showing off any of my amazing shapely features. Especially my boobs! *giggle*

"Your little girlfriend, Suzy, has been informed of this information." He said formally to me. "She's gone back to her house, and won't be contacting you ever again. At least, if she wants to live that is."

By the time they were done with me, I was an old grandma. Oh wait, grandmas are already old. *giggle* silly old me. Hey, what a coincidence!

Anyways! The police situated at the Apartments took a look at me, my papers, my information, before passing me off to go inside. Everyone was informed, but nobody came by to say hello. Yep, most definitely nut jobs. How could they ignore a little old grandma?

Oh well... at least now I can take up my knitting again peaceably, and not be disturbed. It's all I've wanted ever since I had come here; a quiet, normal life where I could finish schooling and find my way in the world. This wasn't what my boobs signed up for.... eye! This isn't what EYE signed up for! Or is it I? oh, my grandma brain hurts.

She's a wonderful rendition of an elderly person. That face in particular is fantastic.
The only problem I have is that I'm not sure how well she's tying into the 'amnesia' aspect of this round. From the story it seems like she still knows who she is? That's not really amnesia.
But the avatar is fantastic, so I couldn't really see taking too many points away for the story.

SilverFalco as Ashley "Ash" Jardine

Ash had been lucky to escape with just a few minor cuts and bruises. Though he did feel a sort of dull throbbing in his head. He was sure that, were he fully conscious, that dull throbbing would be a full-scale symphony of pain. The teddy bear Ash had still been clutching in a feeble attempt to comfort himself at the time of the explosion had absorbed a rather large piece of shrapnel that, if not for the bear, might've gone right through Ash's chest.

Ash only caught vague snippets of the moments immediately following the blast.

"....be alright...move him......ambulance...."

His most vivid recollection of the moment came once he was in the hospital.

"Have you collected their personal effects?" a doctor was saying.

"Yes," responded a rather harried-looking young nurse. "Oh, wait, this young man's watch - " She moved to retrieve it from Ash's wrist, when at that moment he snapped out of his haze, gave the nurse's had a sharp slap and burned a deadly look into her eyes.

"No one touches that..." And with that he slipped back into peaceful unconciousness.

---

A concussion. That had explained the throbbing. And the whole memory loss thing. The doctors said it would be temporary.....probably.

Ash wasn't too concerned though. The only things he seemed to remember (aside from vital stuff like his name) was that he must keep his watch safe at all times....and mermaids? Pictures of mermaids. No, wait. He was a mermaid! That was it. Yeah. And he had a beautiful mermaid lover waiting for him back in the sea. He had to get back there somehow!

---

Upon his "discharge" (he had left against medical and psychiatric advice) Ash made a beeline for the nearest coastline. To his confusion and dismay, he had legs, so he bought a fake costume mermaid tail, and tried his best to regain his true form. It took some doing but he finally found a guy who would cosmetically attach scales to his skin (nevermind the weird looks).

Ash had never been a strong swimmer, so against his better mermaid judgment he was forced to wear water wingies and stay in the shallows of the beach; but no matter. He busied himself splashing around, collecting shells and other trinkets, and making himself "clothing" from seaweed. After all, what else did mermen do? But of course most of his time was devoted to searching far and wide (or at least the 4-5 miles of coastline he now inhabited, and never deeper than he could reach with his feet) for his beloved Isabelle.

It was quite the sight for other beachgoers.

This is awesome. I love how it ties to his life before. That avatar is colorful. The hair is perfect. The floaties and the goggles are fun and the addition of the scales works well.
