My Uncle died.. Not okay, so please do not bother to ask. Anyway... Here's my poem I read at his funeral and reception.
What shall I say to all of you?
What could I ever say that could possibly describe a character as impossible to articulate as Uncle Lou?
Louis was a man, grandfather, father, Uncle, Brother and son. He was a tireless believer in Faith, And would ONLY stop telling you about it when HE was done. At least one thing is for sure now: He is forever safe.
Yes, just as all of you know. Lou is up there in the Crystal Castle of the Sky. He would want us to try our best to let go. Because there he happily sits reunited with his father Louis hoping that one day- some day- we won't have as hard to cry.
Lou was a boy whom everyone said: He's gunna be trouble. And well, sure he was pretty quirky in the head. But Uncle Lou grew into a man who we all can agree succeeded without a single unrecoverable fumble.
Sure, he may have played a few awesome pranks on Sue- But isn't that what little brothers are there to do?
And if I may be so bold to say? Regarding the manners of the French- he was quite right! Lou was one of those remarkable people who appreciated everyone and every day. But despite the fact that he has now left our sight. He will be with us through every plight.
There was never even a LITTLE black rain cloud in Uncle Lou's sky. Which is probably the reason we are all left here asking: "Why?"
Why did it happen, Why did he die? Why isn't he here arguing with Mark and Chris, smiling and laughing? Why couldn't he share with us one last slice of chocolate bourbon pecan pie? Why, why did none of us get to say goodbye?
I'm sure one of the many thoughts echoing through our heads is: What are we, those left in this life, to do? How does life begin again without our lovable Lou?
Well, grief is an obstacle course of a sort. So I will give you a plan and try to make it concise and short.
We will not hide our tears, our memories, or our fears.
We will remain here for one another, Just as we have for all these years.
And one day, far away- We will all arrive to join him. So come what may- Because he is waiting to sneak us into his VIP suite for an eternal stay at Heaven Inn.
