gambling n. - The act or practice of betting. The act of playing a game and consciously risking money or other stakes on its outcome.
I've played poker in the past. Hold 'em, draw, stud, indian... you name it. Today though, was the first time I actually played a real poker game, one for money.
Granted, it wasn't much money, one dollar to buy in for four people total, but it was still the first game I've ever taken seriously. The great thing is, I actually did quite well.
I got two other people out in the first ten hands, and was ahead by about half again as much as my opponent. I would have beaten him too, but I had to concede so I could get to class on time. stare Yes, we were playing in the hall at school, nobody cares.
I rarely play at all, but I have to admit, I find the game quite entertaining, so much so, that I fear I might become a compulsive gambler in the future. I'll have to maintain the stakes at a low level if I ever really get in to it.
I think I might take up playing constantly in a low level setting, no more than five dolars a game, but then the costs might start adding up quite fast. It would probably be best to just sit by and watch which, for the most part, I am perfectly content doing.
