What is so bleak as the sea meeting shore
Gray breakers pounding rock in neverending cadence?
So has it been for time immemorial
And shall ever be, till the sun meets the waves
And is quenched forever
To rise from the ashes no more.
Waves curling and snapping, so light and so heavy
Pounding foam evidence of some terrible power.
The water consumes itself, and is consumed
As all is lost in confusion.
Capacious, capricious, quicksilver moody
Now sweet joy, now heartrending pain.
The ocean’s dance is eternity.
And below in the darkness, lurking in blackness
A brooding presence, the terror of old
Engulfs light and sound, sapping the strength
Of the waves. Despair deadens the spirit.
And the arms of the Kraken spread through the waves
Numbing body and soul alike.
