Angel Esposito's Character History

Angel Esposito -- the orphaned angel. He's never had a thing to call his own -- everything he ever owned, every idea he's expressed, anything he believes in or anybody he's ever loved was given to him, not earned. Even his name. And he always knew at any time it could all be taken away.

Angel was born just after the turn of the century to a lower class family somewhere in the bowels of London. His Christian name was Edward but if you value your life you will never call him that. Not much is known about his mortal history -- typical guttertrash street urchin that made do with what he could steal and never learned the value of a hard day's work. Doesn't matter what came before -- he was poor and a weak disgusting human, and now he's rich and powerful and sexy beyond belief, so screw looking back, mate.

Frederick found him. Doesn't matter how. He was probably a mark for the little thief but whatever the way, the outcome is what's important. Freddie boy was looking for a few good men to help him sieze the Chicago underground, and he saw something important in little Eddie. Malleability. Like putty in his hands -- this little lost lamb could become something great.

Or maybe he just had the hots for the kid, who knows.

Either way, he took him, turned him, and brought him back to Chicago, redubbing him Angel Esposito (esposito meaning "orphaned, abandoned" wink and trained him to be one of the best. He knew how to fight, he knew how to kill. And he was Frederick's right hand man (pun intended) when another lost little lamb blew onto the scene, fresh from a harrowing misadventure in Venice.

Eric and Angel loathed one another at first. How could they not? Frederick used to like to play the boys against one another for his affections and respect. "Makes men outta mice," he used to say. But even he would cringe at the...viciousness their quarrels could take. Especially from that redheaded boy, there was something dark in him. Something dark Frederick could take and mold for his own purposes. Poor Angel. Guess he took to his name just a bit too much. He just didn't have the ruthlessness of Eric - a name given to the boy by Frederick. Partly taken from his own name and partly because, perhaps, he saw the same thing in the boy Victor had.

So Eric ursurped Angel's place in Frederick's mind and heart, but that was okay. Because the little lamb had fallen for his better -- heart, mind and soul. A love that bordered on obsession.

And Eric returned the feelings -- perhaps truely, at first, but as time went on and he became more and more twisted from basically being a soul-less killer for a living, his affections mirrored his first teacher's, more than anything. But Angel still loved him so. Despite the bruises...and the burns...and the cuts. Despite the harsh words and the drink-fueled, ah -- 'advances'.

He'd always been a bit of a masochist, anyway. Maybe he just likes being hurt. Maybe he thinks he deserves being hurt. Or maybe he just thinks -- as long as Eric is paying attention to him someway, it means he loves him back. Even if it's a slap instead of a kiss.

He still loves him, even though Eric left him in Vegas and even though the male says it's completely over, and he never really loved in him the first place, and he's sorry, and he's trying to move on, and he's trying to redeem himself, and would Angel please just leave him alone -- none of that matters. He just wants him back.

And he's going to get him back, one way or another. The real him. The Eric he remembers and loves. You can't hide from your past forever. He's going to make sure of that.
