Work in Progress
mostly contains parts of stories I'm working on. Comments welcome on ideas/storylines
Second thing, first Part
This is a little story I actually wrote mostly in 9th grade. But I've tweeking it and changing somethings... so here it is. Well, part of it...

Mia Olin gazed down on the entrance to the blazing white castle before her. From her favorite seat within her tree she watched the new visitors pass over the lowered wooden drawbridge. Though many dressed strangely, she could identify most of them from her studies and information discretely gathered from inside the castle, which she had happily called her home for ten years now. These guests were ambassadors from all the kingdoms in the Alliance;* they had secretly been called to the castle by the current leader of the Wizard Kingdom. All the students had been confined to their wing of the castle for the day, but she had volunteered to do some spying on the new visitors. As the last of the incoming group passed out of sight, she leaned against the smooth back of the tree and pondered the reason for the call. Usually the wizards, though small in population, needed little help from their neighbors, the elves and dwarves, with their mastery of magic. This call for the others posed a question to many of the students in the castle.
The three races had little in common, if only their mortality, the looming threat of death. Wizards were humans, five to six feet in average height, infused with the power of magic. The strength of a wizard's magic came from a variety of things: his intelligence and will, as well as his connection to each of the eight elements: earth, air, fire, water, electricity, spirit, lightness and darkness. Average wizards mastered one or two element, but could perform simple spells in the other. The masters, who often headed the counsels, could master anywhere from six to eight elements. Mastery of the darkness was monitored, if not socially prohibited. Darkness, as the name suggests, controlled spells related to death; thus the power could be considered disastrous in the wrong hands. Physically weak, they rely on their powers and technology.
Elves were tall, six to seven feet on average, slender, delicate pointed ears and usually had straight, and sometimes wavy, hair. Physically strong and nimble and naturally wise, they were adept at combat as wells as the magical arts. Most elves mastered one in their lifetime, though some could eventually master another. These powers are not used in combat, but in their crafts. They product the best crafts, with any medium, infusing their works with magic.
Dwarves, in contrast, were short, average four to five feet, and less nimble, but incredibly strong. Excelling in manual labor and combat, they learned mostly earth and fire magics, but never mastered any element. Most of these are used in their blacksmith skills, which are known to produce the best armor and swords around. Many wizards enchant these, then sell them at a profit. Very loyal and secretive, other races know little about them
In past centuries war had waged between the three races, most heavily between the elves and wizards. When a peace was declared, the children of important figures in each nation were wed, the most prominent being Mia's parents. . Her mother was an elf, daughter of the Elven king, and her father was the son of the present leader of the Wizard Kingdom. Their arranged marriage had not been the happiest, but was a symbol of peace and cooperation between the kingdoms. They had been living in the Elven kingdom until Mia turned six and her powers and natural affinity to the elements were discovered. In order to realize her full potential, her family arranged to move to the Wizard Kingdom so she could be trained. Tragedy struck on the journey however; when the boat arrived at port it appeared to have been ravaged by a terrible storm. No one on board survived, save Mia and her father, who had been lock in a room below deck. Her father never recovered from wounds received during the journey and died a few years later. Mia herself remembers little to nothing about her previous life, due to the passing of time and a concussion received during the journey. For the last ten years she had been living with her grandparents, growing and learning at an amazing rate. Mia had the best of both worlds, the Elves' strength and talent with crafts and grace with the Wizards' mental and magical abilities. A trim, tall youth of 16, she showed promising beauty, with rich emerald eyes, dark red hair and round pink lips. Her wavy hair often fell free down her back covering her elven ears, or in a bun when active, like the present.
She was awakened from her thoughts as a new group arrived. Instantly she could tell it was an elven caravan from its design and beauty. With the caravan passes a tall elf with dark hair and bright eyes, riding a strong white horse and wearing elaborate clothes. Though she had not seen any elves since the beginning of her time at the castle she felt an old familiarity with this man, who she assumed was the elven ambassador. As she remembered almost nothing before her life at the castle, this feeling made her immensely curries and excited. The castle doors shut loudly as the man and his company passed within them, and she realized that every nation was accounted for. Intrigued at her recent discovery, she climbed to the top of the tall evergreen tree and hopped into her sleeping quarters to discuss this man and the arrival of the ambassadors with her closest friends.
Though Mia was related to the highest authority in the land, it had little effect on her friendships. Each of her friends came from completely different backgrounds, but each was extraordinary in their own way. As she jumped in, they sprung up from their chairs and eagerly went to greet her.
Diana, a short hazel-eyed girl, asked nervously, "No one caught you right?" As Mia nods in response, she sighs in relief and brushes a lock of brown-streaked hair behind her ear. She continues, excitement evident in her clear voice. "Good. Did you figure out what they're doing here, or if any of this has to do with your Quest?"
The Quest was the test all wizards had to take before being able to leave school. It tested the wizard's ability to control not only each element, but also themselves and their emotions, making sure they would intelligently live in the "real" world. Mia would be facing her test the next day.
"No. I was quiet, but so was my quarry." She replies, her eyes dancing. "None of them spoke as they entered the castle, but by their appearance an ambassador from each country has arrived.
"Really?" a curly blonde boy asked, his gray eyes shining. "From every race? Even your cousin Elenna did get that."
Mia laughed slightly. Peter was the son of a high-ranking government official, while Diana was the daughter of a local merchant. The former often reminded Mia of her status in the kingdom. "I don't think my nobility is the reason they're here Pete." Mia said. "I think it's because of my lineage, being part elf."
"That could be true Mia," Diana replied, "But I don't think that's it either…" she started, but trailed off before finishing, a calculating look on her face.
"Cm' on Dee, don't keep us in suspense." Peter cries, giving Diana a friendly poke.
Diana jumps back in surprise and continues, "Well, Mia, you know how powerful you've become these past few years…I think they are here to make sure you accomplish something worthy of your power and rank. I believe, and my research backs me up, that you are one of the most powerful wizards ever. You seemed to have mastered five of the elements, and would have mastered the dark if it wasn't so destructive." Mia just shrugs. Diana lifts a single eyebrow in response and continues, "You've stumped most of the council members. They figured you'd be weaker because of you're split heritage. Now they're not sure what to do with you and want to make sure you be a threat."
A silence filled the room as Diana and Peter stared at their friend, who had become quite preoccupied with a loose thread on her shirt. After a few seconds, Mia looked up and said quietly, "I almost hope you're right, Dee. Then maybe someone would tell me something about my childhood. Just now, while I was out there, I saw the Elven ambassador. He seemed so familiar to me, like he was a part of my family, but no one has ever told me about him before." She sighs, leaning back against the nearby stone window frame.
"I'm sorry Mia, but our folks won't tell us much about your past either." Peter starts encouragingly. "Maybe your Quest will help you figure some things out."
Yeah, Mia," Diana adds. "Besides, I think I know who you're mystery man is: Katarn Hanon. He was a very close friend to your mother and his wife was wizard, like your father who he did not trust. His family is said to take care of royalty when it was needed. Also, he has a son about our age, Luke Hanon, who should be here as his father's page. Luke is said to be very handsome and skillful in battle." Her face turns a soft red, and her voice a wisp.
Peter and Mia laugh. Her desire for knowledge still not satisfied she asks, "Thanks Dee." Giving her friend a playful nudge she adds, "How did you find all that out?"
Simply, Diana shrugs and replies, "Books."
Another laugh from Peter and Mia ensues. With that the three friends part for the night and wait for the start of Mia's Quest the next day.
