Newest Story part 1
The two girls walked into the decrepit building; everyone who knew them, under their hoods, knew they were identical, but few knew how. Even young, they were beautiful and experienced. The mobster in the card room(?) was seedy to be sure, but just another hit on the twins’ list, probably getting too big for his britches and making a larger Boss antsy. But Tiran handled setting up the jobs; Edira just did as she was told, distracting and bleeding(shooting) people when needed. This wasn’t her preferred line of work, but at least they weren’t homeless orphans anymore. Tiran had scouted earlier, and her expression stony as usual as they headed, up the stairs, and down the long hallway. The target room was insight, picked because it was far enough away to avoid suspicion, yet close enough (and low enough) to provide a good escape. A lone maid in the hallway, however, saw them, moved to runaway, and Edira sadly put a silent bullet in her forehead. “We’ll have to hide the maid” she told her sister as they entered, who simply nodded. Neither was bothered much by death anymore, but they both agree to only kill at last resort because bodies create questions. And they didn’t need questions. They began to change into their disguises, making sure to cover all the mirrors with clothing so their identities couldn’t be found out/recorded.
Tiran finished first, shoving the old clothes back into the bag, weapons concealed under her flowing gown. “Hurry up and get down there,” she whispered as she opened the door. “I don’t want to have to do all the work.”
The door closed smoothly, and Edira went back to finishing the last parts of her outfit. As she slipped on the final touches, silver diamond earrings, soft laughter and the patter of feet entered her ears, growing louder, quickly. Her head turned in their direction, towards the back of the room that they’d assumed was the end, as she quickly shoveled clothes into her bag. Perhaps if she hid the disguises, she wouldn’t have to kill them, whoever they were. Two small children burst into the room; two young girls, one barely older than a toddler, wearing ballet outfits and dancing as freely as only the innocent can. Edira stared entranced, slowly rising to her feet. They were unaware of her presence, and she watched in silence until the smallest backed into her shins, sinking, and then slowly sitting on top of her black boots. The oldest froze, eyes wide, and the eyes of the youngest slowly met Edria’s as she peered down. A moment passed, and Edira finally bent down, lifting the young one up under the armpits to her eye level.
“Are you alright little one?” She asked, flashing her sweetest smile. The child nodded, relaxing slightly, lips still pressed together in fear. “Don’t worry,” she laughed softly. “I won’t hurt you. What are you doing here?”
The child spoke as Edira set her down. “We’re waiting for our parents; there was this passage that lead from our room to this one.” Her voice was soft, and she stared at her feet, hands folded behind her back.
“Donna!” The elder scolded, running to her side and grabbing her by the shoulders.
“But she seems nice Ginny…” Donna started, glancing at her sister, then back at Edira.
Ginny turned her eyes toward Edira. “I guess so.” Her eyes brightened. “Would you dance with us, please?” As Edira softly shook her head, Ginny whined louder. “Please? Oh, please, we’re so bored.”
Edira glanced quickly towards the door and drew her mouth to the side. She couldn’t keep her sister waiting too much longer, but she couldn’t let these kids stay in the room in case trouble followed them back. “Oh alright,” she said, hoping the child hadn’t been too loud. “Just for a few minutes, then you have to go back to your rooms, okay?” The girls smiled and nodded, breaking apart. The three began to dance, and Edira picked up a tune, her low, soft voice humming musically through the air. She’d learned to dance as parts of her various disguises, but with these small children she felt a bit of the freedom and innocence she’d missed growing up. Moments passed, and her nervousness reappeared. She stopped and began to speak at the girls, who where near the door to the hallway. “Come on girls,” she called softly. “Time to go.”
The door flew open, and her sister appeared between her and the children. “What in Hells is taking you so long Edira! The job’s done (already), we’ve got to get out of here before they realize the Boss is dead…” Her voice was harsh, and she stopped as she noticed Edira’s out-reaching hands. Quickly, she shut the door, and discovered the children behind her. Fire appeared in her eyes. Without a word, she pulled her dagger out from in her corset and stabbed Donna through the forehead. Edira froze, pale and sick as Ginny screamed and grabbed for her shaking sister. Tiran threw the living girl away and held the dagger toward Edira, Donna still skewered on it. The end had poked through the dying child’s head and was now within inches of Edira’s singened, tear streaked face. “Children” Tiran spat looking her sister in the eyes. There was a redness filling the familiar green iris of her twin, and a malicious smile on her face. “You’re playing with the animals while I’m working my a** off with the horny old men downstairs?!” Donna was still twitching in the air, and Tiran raised an eyebrow. “At least their flesh is soft, tender…” Her mouth moved to the left of the dagger, and a sickening tearing noise filled the air as Edira’s eyes darkened.
Edira blinked, then started glancing around wildly. The children were still dancing, perfect and whole, as if nothing had happened. She reached out her hands again, calling out, “Alright girls, time to go.”
The doors sprang open, just as they had before. “What in Hells is taking you so long Edira! The job’s done, we’ve got to get out of here before they realize the Boss is dead…” Her sister shouted again, and again stopped as she noticed her sister’s arms. This time however, Edira acted first, instinctually; she grabbed her own dagger from her belt and landed it in her sister’s gut. Tiran’s eyes flew to her, as red as before, and the same malicious smile painted her face, though now meshed with confusion. “Ah, little sister, there’s something you’ve been hiding from me.” Blood poured from the wound as Tiran drew the blade out and advanced on Edira. “How did you know I was going to kill your lovely little friends here? How did you know I longed to taste their warm flesh?” The girls pressed themselves against the nearest wall at her words, frozen and pale. Edira steeled herself, gripping the last dagger in her belt. “I don’t know Tiran…but you’re not yourself. I’m sorry.” Tiran laughed, her voice inhuman, masculine and loud. “We’ll see who’s sorry in the end, dear girl. I’ll be watching you.” Her eyes rolled back in her head and she collapsed to the ground. Edira rushed to her side, but there was no pulse in her sister’s veins. She stared, disorientated, first at the children plastered to the wall, then at her sister’s body. Shouts echoed in the distance. Snapping out of her trance, she grabbed the children and her bag and headed down the corridor they had appeared from. They shook in her arms, and she cooed them softly. “I’m sorry girls, but I really need to know where your parents’ room is. Can you help me?” Ginny raised her wide eyes to her and nodded slowly. “The hall is pretty straight, yours was the first door we came to.”
The girl was right; the passage was narrow, windowless and straight. Edira ran, not waiting to hear sounds of pursuit, eyes peeled for the first door in the solid wooden walls. She almost missed it. Opening the door slowly, she placed the children inside and hugged them quickly. “You’ll be safe here.” She whispered, looking sadly at them. “I have to go, please don’t tell anyone I was here, or where I went.” They stared and nodded. Edira gave them a small smile, slipping past them into the room and out the door leading to the inside of the building. Slipping on the hood of her cloak and gripping her bag strap tightly she walked through the near empty saloon and fled into the shadows of the streets.
