life the universe and nothing in particular
Bits and pieces of my life, when I can be bothered
TawnyAngel
The brightly coloured mare watched the sun creep over the horizon with a quiet smile on her lips. Mornings were always a good thing, especially when one has been awake for half the night is therefore not too tired to enjoy nature's beauty.

In a few weeks, Nyx considered as she bent to graze, she would have to switch over; wake at midday and go to rest at midnight rather than vice versa. That would give her a chance to see a sunset. Those beautiful displays always made the lingering romantic fantasies from her filly-hood seem more vivid, more likely.

The blue-maned mare smiled slightly at her own silliness feeling very glad that she hadn't grown too old and staid for such dreams.

BlackFireKitsune
Cantering through the meadow was the red-creme colored mare, heading towards a good place to watch the sunrise before it completely took its place above their heads. The sunrise was almost as pretty as the sunset, in her opinion, and she wanted a front-row seat to witness the former.

The wind against her body was a wonderful thing indeed, it made her heart feel more free than if she was just standing or walking. Although she used her wings mainly as beautiful decorations, she did enjoy flapping them carefully while cantering, to feel the wind blow through them more.

She slowed to a stop as she arrived, fluttering her wings a bit, and pulled them to her sides. She tilted her head to the side a bit, noticing the other nequus. Oh joy, someone to talk to! She nickered and trotted closer to the other curiously, wondering if this mare was there for the same reason she was. "Hello there! Who're you?"

TawnyAngel
Nyx raised her head as the hooves approached and turned to face the slender stranger who had just addressed her. The spotted mare smiled faintly to herself; this Ichsa, at least on first impression, didn't seem to be anywhere near as haughty as many of her kind were.

"Hello there," she said in return, her smile becoming external. "My name is Nyx, what might yours be?"

Indeed, far from being proud this horned being seemed the very essence of sweet friendliness. Such Nequus were always a pleasure to meet, too rare by half it seemed to the brightly coloured Aeri.

BlackFireKitsune
She trotted up to the other nequus happily, a smile playing on her lips as she stopped near her. "My name is Nizhoni, it's a pleasure to meet you, Nyx! Are you here to watch the sunrise, too?" She inquired of the other mare curiously, surely she was there for that reason. Why else would she be out in this meadow so early? There wasn't any other reason she could think of, so she assumed that was the truth. "Aren't sunrises so pretty? I like them, and sunsets, too." She nodded to herself, flicking her tail idly, as she continued to smile at the other nequus. Company was always wonderful, and this aeri seemed very nice so far, not mean or scornful like some other nequus could be.

TawnyAngel
Nyx nodded at the friendly Ichsa. "Yes, that's mostly why I'm here, besides the fact that I and my friends live here abouts." The great orange and blue head nodded at the Nequus scattered around the grasslands.

"They are wonderful, aren't they?" Nyx went on, turning her face back to the horizon and the slowly clambering sun. "Nothing quite like a good sunrise and, again, nothing like a good sunset. They've always been my favourite times of day, along with moonrise that is. There’s something... big about them if you know what I mean," she said, turning her blue gaze upon her elegant-winged companion. "Like... you're so tiny and your life is so short and yet... you matter."

The large Aeri laughed and swished her short tail. "I'm sorry if that didn't make very much sense, I hardly even understand what I mean myself."

BlackFireKitsune
The slender mare looked about them at the other nequus and she smiled again, nodding. "Oh, that's nice. I don't really have a home, per se, I normally just stay wherever I get tired. It must be nice to have a real home and family, though." She smiled and nodded again, then turned her attention to the sunrise. "They are wonderful, my two favorite times of the day are early morning and evening, to watch the sunrise and sunset." She smiled, watching the horizon and the rising sun.

"Yes, I agree with that. Everyone matters, no matter how small. We all have a purpose to serve, I think." She smiled and giggled, looking back at the aeri mare. "No, it did make sense."

TawnyAngel
Nyx gave a tiny snort of pleased amusement. "I'm glad, words aren’t always my best feature, you know? I'm better at being me than talking about being me."

The spotted Aeri let her gaze follow the Ichsa's and smiled fondly as she picked out individuals from the whole and put names to them. "It is nice to have a place to call home," she confirmed, "and people to know and love as well..."

The bat-winged mare found herself wondering what it was like to live one's life alone. She didn't imagine it could be too pleasant. "Well, you're welcome to stay here with us as long as you like and to come back anytime after you leave," she told the cream–chested Ichsa. "We're a friendly lot on the whole, always willing to make more friends. You could even stay on permanently if you wanted."

BlackFireKitsune
The mare nodded, smiling. "They're not really my best feature either, but I don't think it matters much." She smiled and swished her tail a bit, gazing at the sunrise again. "Yes, it must be nice to have a family, blood related or not," she mused aloud, still gazing at the beautiful display.

At the aeri's offer, the mare nearly toppled over as her head whipped to look at Nyx. "Really?! Oh, that would be wonderful, I'd love to live with you and your family!" She pranced around excitedly, her wings fluttering a bit before calming down. "Are you sure your other family members wouldn't mind? I'd hate to be a bother."

TawnyAngel
Nyx smiled at the Ichsa and shook her head. "Not at all, no bother, as I say we're always happy to have more people in the group. More allies, friends, everything. It's all good to us. The more the merrier."

The spotted Nequus bent over to nibble at some grass briefly. "It's a good life," she said raising her head once more. "Simple but good; peaceful. We're happy."

BlackFireKitsune
She pranced about again, kicking her hind legs in the air a bit and swishing her tail. "Oh, thank you so much! This means so much to me, and I thank you very much for taking me in." She smiled happily as she trotted around in a circle, then stopped, a smile still on her face. "I've always wondered what it would be like to have a family." She lowered her head to n** some grass, swishing her tail again, then raised her head to look at the aeri again. "Thank you so much, Nyx."

TawnyAngel
Nyx smiled fondly at her new friend's exuberance. "I'm glad to have made you happy, Nizhoni. Making other people happy makes me happy in turn, especially if I happen to like the person that I've made happy as much as I already like you. I'm sure you'll fit in just fine; I shall have to introduce you to some of the others later on."

It truly did please her to see the other mare so happy, all Nequus to Nyx's mind were intended for happiness provided that it did not injure others. New friends are always good, always... Humm... I wonder if my Stallion will turn up all of a sudden like she just did? Sunset would be nice... Ack! daydreaming!

The orange and blue mare shook her short mane and smiled at the Ichsa opposite her. "Sorry, miles away for a moment there."

BlackFireKitsune
The joyful mare shook her mane and swished her tail happily. "You've made me very happy, I've always wondered what it would be like to have a family, and now I'll know!" She smiled, her ears perked forward. "Oh yes, I can hardly wait to meet your other family members! How many are there?"

She was overjoyed. Finally, she'd know what it would be like to have a family. This was the first other nequus she'd met officially, and she'd offered her a place to live and a family! Hmm.. I wonder if all nequus are as nice as Nyx? I haven't seen anyone that's mean yet.. She smiled at the spotted aeri still, swishing her tail again. "It's okay, I daydream a lot too. What were you thinking about?"

TawnyAngel
"How many? Oh dear," The Aeri grinned and shook her head. "I'm afraid I've never counted everyone. Maybe around fifty who stay here with the group all the time, twenty so that wander in and out a lot and a couple that visit us perhaps once a season. I'm afraid that's a hugely rough guess though."

The spotted mare ran her blue eyes briefly over those Nequus that were about at such an hour before shaking her head again, still amused. "Everybody works on a different day cycle see so I can never really count all of us up."

Having puzzled out the fact that she had no idea at all how big the group that followed her was, Nyx moved on to the next question. "Stallions," she said with a slightly wider grin. "I still have this image of the perfect mate just waltzing in here one day and bowling me over."

BlackFireKitsune
"Oh my, that many?" The young mare asked, her eyes wide. "I've never even seen that many before!" She nodded, looking around at all of the others. "Yes, I suppose so. I like to get up extra early so I can see the sunrise," she said with a smile, then giggled. "Oh, that sounds like it would be nice. How do you picture him? What breed, and colors?" She giggled. It was wonderful to have someone to talk to.

TawnyAngel
Nyx sighed wistfully a small smile on her lips. "Oh I don't know, I've pictured so many different form he could have. Tall I think; not necessarily as big as me though. Dark coat, captivating eyes. The idea of a Jala or another Aeri always captivated me though as I say breed isn't a huge part of my dreaming. He'd be handsome one way or another though and kinda hearted. Brave and loyal and demanding too."

The spotted mare shivered slight and grinned at her new friend. "I'm a hopeless romantic and I can't seem to regret it at all no matter how high it sets my standards for a mate. I need love, real love. Companionship or an alliance of some sort wouldn't be enough for me."

BlackFireKitsune
A small giggle escaped the light-colored mare. "Sounds like he would be quite the handsome stallion. I'm a little of a romantic myself then, too; I want a mate to love, not just companionship or anything like that." Her tail swished a bit as she looked up at the brightening sky, the sun almost completely visible now. "Of course, I don't really mind what breed or color, as long as he's kind. Hopefully an ichsa, but it really doesn't matter to me." She lowered her gaze and giggled again. "It's so nice to have someone to talk to."

TawnyAngel
Nyx nodded her agreement to the Ichsa and let her gaze wander over the forms of her friends. "I don't think I'd cope very well with being alone," she confided, turning to the other mare. "I could live life happily and never meet this wonderful stallion I think so much about I think but I couldn't cope without friends and family."

The Aeri swished her short tail and gave a shake; her muscles loosening from the slight tension that standing still in the cold for a time had brought to them. "I am glad you've decided to stay with us," she smiled at her new friend. "A very nice surprise in a slightly unpleasant season; winter grass is never any fun."

BlackFireKitsune
"Yes, being all alone isn't too fun, but I could manage. I don't know how long I would have been able to handle it, though." She stated, looking down at the ground, pawing it gently. "I think everyone needs at least one friend, and I'm glad to have found such a wonderful one. I think I could live without finding my wonderful stallion, too, but I think I wouldn't feel as complete, y'know?" She gazed at her new friend with a smile, ears perked forward.

"I'm glad you invited me to stay with you," she answered with another giggle. "It really will be wonderful to live with friends. And I agree; winter grass isn't fun."

TawnyAngel
Nyx smiled at the Ichsa and nodded. "Very bland but much better with friends," she said, turning her blue eyes back to the rising sun. "I think I agree with you about the stallion thing; though being without him would be alright and whilst making up lots of different versions of what he might be like is fun... Well, actually meeting him would be... just amazing."

That would also solve the problem of heirs. At the moment the elders who advised her despaired at her refusal to take a mate but it wasn't a big issue yet as she was still young. Pressure to take a stallion would increase as she aged and one day she might have to give up on her daydreams to avoid conflict.

Nyx pushed the thought aside with an internal snort of amusement at her momentary worry. He would come one day, she just had to be patient and hold her ground against anyone that told her she had to mate right now.

"Who knows," she said as she turned back to Nizhoni, "you might find your stallion right here. There's quite a few as you can see," she said with a nod to the scattered group before them.

BlackFireKitsune
She nodded and smiled. "It would be amazing to meet the stallion of your dreams, and even moreso if he feels the same about you as you do him." She gazed up at the brightened sky and the scattered, fluffy clouds. She wasn't thinking the same thing as Nyx was; she had no elders around to pressure her to take a mate, or suggest stallions as possible mates. Maybe one day she would be pressured by others with a decision, but not at the moment. When Nyx spoke again, she turned her attention back to the other mare and offered her a gentle smile. "Maybe I will; it would be lucky if I did, wouldn't it? There are quite a few.." She gazed out across the field at the other nequus, studying them all carefully before returning her gaze to her friend. "Maybe you'll find your stallion around here, too."

TawnyAngel
Nyx grinned and shook her head. "Not out of my dear lot; I love them all dearly but... Well, any the right age for me I've known as foals you know? They're too much like sibling to me for me to fall in love with one of them, that's why I hope he just appears out of the blue one day like you did."

It was easily possible; there were many Nequus in the world and many in the plains of Do'b that were not associated with her group. Perhaps one day when they ran into another group she would find him, or perhaps he would be a lone traveller.

The spotted Aeri sighed dreamily and gave her friend a slightly sheepish smile.

BlackFireKitsune
"Well, I suppose it would be a bit odd, wouldn't it? I hadn't thought of that before I suggested it; I haven't known these nequus since they or I were foals like you have." She giggled, swishing her tail. "Well, maybe he will appear out of the blue. If I did it, then I suppose it must be possible!" She giggled again, trotting around in a circle.

"Oh, I haven't seen much around here yet. Would you like to go for a walk with me, to show me around? Who knows, maybe we'll meet a handsome stud around here somewhere who neither of us know yet," she giggled, eager to explore.

TawnyAngel
Nyx smiled and nodded her assent. "Of course, I'd be happy to show you about, introduce you to everyone and such. Moving sounds like a good idea; keep us a bit warmer in this cold weather, eh?" she said, shivering slightly as she remembered how her chilled body was getting.

So saying, the spotted Aeri set off through the slightly scruffy winter grass. "There isn't too much to see here abouts," she admitted. "All grass for ages and ages. The only features we have are odd patches of trees, a few large rocks that the foals like to play on and hillocks. I like it myself but others have told me its a bit dull."

BlackFireKitsune
"Oh, thank you!" She trotted about again, her tail flicking to the side. "That's partially why I asked, so we could move around to keep us warm. Plus I'd love to meet some of the others in your herd," she giggled, trotting after the aeri. "I like it here, it's very neat and friendly. I don't think it's dull at all, I don't know why others would think so."

TawnyAngel
The tall Nequus smiled over at her friend and looked about at her home for what must have been the thousandth time. "Thank you, I think so too... Well, I suppose tastes differ and I'll admit that this isn't the place to come for high adventure."

"Still," the spotted mare grinned, "we have people to meet. See that little group over there?" she indicated those she meant with a toss of her head. "I'll race you to them. On three?"

The Aeri grinned and pawed at the hard ground. "One. Two. Three!" On the last count, the brightly coloured Nequus sprang away with a laugh, glad just to be alive and to have a new friend at her side.

BlackFireKitsune
"Yes, I agree on that, but it is the perfect place to see the sunrise." She giggled again, pawing at the ground. "A race sounds great!" She swished her tail, pawing the ground again. As soon as Nyx announced the last number, Nizhoni took off at a gallop as fast as her thin legs could take her. She tried to keep her wings close to her sides so they wouldn't cause her to slow at all, but it didn't matter much since they were so thin. She laughed as she galloped, glad to have a friend to spend time and race with.
